I read that Gavin Newsom signed an order to ban gasoline or diesel powered car sales in just over 14 years. That should work great with all their rolling 'green-outs'! I wonder if this will affect the 7 states that linked their automobile emissions standards to California's regs. Colorado is one of those.

Does it occur to anyone else that when insanity fails (in these places), they just go to more extreme insanity to make up for the failures?
It's like some kind of contest for the deranged.

Seems to me that the powers that are will be turning that state into a bigger fire pit/sewer and truthfully I didn't even believe that was possible! I personally believe we do NOT need any more left coasters here. Ah the whine of the electric motor the smell of the ozone the figuring out trips in 125 mile 150 mile bites! The sheer boredom of waiting for the batteries to recharge. RIDE SAFE.

I once heard of a guy that invented a car that ran on water. Rather doubtful but if it does that would be a real blast. Just think, buy a couple cases of your favorite beer and you could go from coast to coast without stopping except to drain your tank by filling the car's tank. Take you girlfriend along and make it a round trip. The tank issue might be a little problematic but there's always a work around.

does not surprise me in 14 years near 1/2 of all cars are hybrid and/or all electric. It is coming sooner than we think. electric motorcycles are out and here to stay already. It will not be our generation buying them but our kids generation and beyond just glad I will not be here to see it when all the dead batteries go in landfills and pollute the earth just as much

No exemptions for classic cars probably. It just goes to show that crazy is contagious and just keeps getting crazier. Seems I heard or read somewhere that the Gov is related to nitwit pelosi. It must run in the family.

Simply an attempt to shift future carbon based pollution from one source/location to another, most assuredly, one that is downwind of CA. Some major strides will need to occur in electrical power production along with grid improvements to make this happen.
Waiting on the request for federal funds to reach this goal. Personally, I would not willing pay for CA's social and environmental experimentations.

Yes it would be a blast probably literally and yes it is not only possible some mfgs are actually working on it. Submarines produce oxygen from water that keeps them breathing. That unit that does it is called a scrubber but also a slang called, boom I believe. Its because this unit divides Hydrogen and oxygen out of the water, of course they discharge the Hydrogen but use the oxygen. Hydrogen can run cars and actually is a much better source for power than electric. Look at the bright side with a 150 to 250 mile cruise range on electric vehicles they wont be able to make it out of California and the cars will die in the desert.

We recently had a review of the future CARB (California Air Resource Board) requirements for small engine emissions at work. Californians won't have gas powered lawn equipment come 2023, as no manufacturer can meet the requirement... Looks like it's battery power only. https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/resources/fact-sheets/small-engines-california

The idiot governor's order bans the sale of NEW gasoline and diesel powered vehicles beginning in 2035. Existing gas/diesel vehicles would not be banned from opoeration. There are approximately 15.1 million registered vehicles in the state, of which approximately 250,000 are electric or alternative fuel. This leaves 14,850,000 gas/diesel powered vehicles. We are going to be burning dinosaurs for a little longer.

It's sure nice living in lowly state of Indiana. Colorado used be one of my places to go every year (97'-15') and seeing the changes , but the mountain folk still are extremely gracious thus if we get back there I definitely will bypass Denver except stopping in Sunrise Sunset cafe on South Wadsworth in Lakewood for breakfast. Sad state of affairs going on with no end in sight.

Assuming they replace 15 million cars and trucks with electric vehicles, WHERE will the ELECTRICITY come from? They've shut down so many coal, nuclear, and natural gas power plants that they're already short of power on hot days. Occasional rolling outages will become occasional ON-ages.
It's estimated that to power America's grid with wind and solar, HALF of the nation's land mass would need to be covered with turbines and panels. That assumes that you'd have a method of storing enough electricity to power everything when the intermittent sources were idle, which isn't remotely possible. And, that estimate is for converting the current grid, not a much larger grid needed to power millions of electric vehicles. This is an eco-fantasy.

That IS great news! Maybe they'll ban non-electric airplanes too. I'm sure it's been considered.

With their (unconstitutional) approved gun list nonsense, all kinds of firearms that are not legal for sale new, remain lawful for possession and use, but you have to pay exorbitant prices for them used from other CA residents. So after this law gets approved, you can still drive gas cars, but it'll cost you $30K for an old beat up Edsel, if you an get it through the emissions testing.

I'm curious if your "idiot governor" is being driven around in a gas or diesel powered automobile (or is he). Seems to me he should be using an all electric transport since he's so gung ho to get there. Thinking he should be setting a good example! Rams

Jess, one of the companies I audited back in the day was owned by a guy with a Pacer. I was checking it out my first afternoon there and he struck up a conversation about it. Seems it had just shy of 200k miles and was really proud of that fact. I had to agree that was quite a feat. The next morning I got there just minutes before him but could hear him coming two blocks away....from the burnt out OEM exhaust system and all the rattles....both from the body and the motor. I laughed till I had tears. He told me he has an agreement with his neighbor that owned a junkyard, no matter where it finally dies it will take just one call and he'll send a flatbed to pick it up. He then added...."I keep my cell phone fully charged."

My old hunting pal in Wisconsin - the same one I help hunt in Kansas after he had a stroke - had a brother with a Pacer. He insisted we take it deer hunting in the big woods up North. OK. It had a broken leaf spring in back. We were in Kenosha where the car was made. He was in such a hurry to get going he said "we'll get a garage to fix it up North." Right. Good idea. ( Remind you of "Road Kill"?)
We were up North for hunting week. Big swamps up there, water table is right at the surface pretty much in the Nicolet Nat'l Forest. Driving down a forest road he was at the wheel, there was a LONG stretch ahead of us with the road awash. So he FLOORS IT to get through the lake. Good idea. We hit it at around 60. Like driving in a waterfall with no visibility. The engine got soaked and immediately died. We eventually got the distributor dried out and took a day off to get the spring fixed. The operator of the small garage said he didn't have the part but could get a similar one from a local salvage yard. But he said what you really need is a high lift jack. Ron said "for what?".
"Put it under the radiator cap and jack it up. Then drive another car under the cap."
It truly was the very epitome of a POS.

Some of you may remember SpeedVision, a satellite channel from the 1990s. They ran shows about anything with an engine. They also had some great self-promoting ads. One was about a motorcycle cop who stopped Pacers and disabled them as a service to the motoring public. Here's a pretty fuzzy copy I found on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZlPE4NiPCn8
