I'm thinking of adding an Ultimate seat to my 99 IS. Reading the website, it looks like I would need a big boy or king. My question is both seat put you back 1-2 inches in the seat. Does that mean that I have to reach that much to grip my handlebars? That much of of a reach seems like it would cause shoulder and back problems. Looking for any thoughts or experiences on this Thanks

I have the middle sized (big boy?) STD/Tourer Ultimate seat... I've tried a Corbin seat and am now trying out a not-made-for-me Russell seat. The other seats set me back noticeably farther than the Ultimate does. -Mike

I never rode a stock seat, but I'm 5'9" (and have taller risers, 4 and 5.5 inches), and the Ultimate Bigboy seat fits me to a T (on both Interstates), with an easy reach to the handlebars (and controls, and the ground).
Ultimate seats do have a pocket in the back of the seat where your butt naturally goes (perfect for me). Sloping to higher noses, which keeps you back there (with a few complaints of sore testicles, but mostly not).
You have to work harder on an Ultimate than a stock seat, to brake hard enough to slide up on the gas tank. But in twisty, spirited back and forth riding, I really like a rear pocket seat (with driver's backrest) where you stay put.
If you are looking at the Kingboy, remember the driver's backrest is on the pillion (if that suits you). But it may not suit all passengers with the backrest farther back (crowding her personal space).

I’m fairly small. Not even 5’8” after my back injury. The Lowrider puts me back at least as much as the seat you are looking at and I have no problem reaching the bars on the stock location.

Ultimate is right here in Ormond. If you ride over and go in, they have the seats on display to sit on and try. Then you can pick one to try on your bike and ride around. I believe they give you a couple hours to try. The owner has a few valkyries and knows them well.

I have the Big Boy seat on my '99 I/S. It was on her when I got her in '08. To my knowledge the risers are stock. I don't have problems reaching the hand grips, but then I used to be 6'4. (though have shrank a bit due to too many years on this earth). Don't find that my seat moves much in twisties. But do notice I have been sliding forward a bit when on long straight a ways and feet on Hwy Pegs. Don't think that is the fault of the seat.

The FL Valk crowd is pretty big and active. Hook up with them, and someone will let you try their Ultimate out. Besides going to the factory, which if it's close-by is the simple way to decide, at no cost.

My bike came with the Big Boy and it's very comfortable. I put the stock seat on and it sucked compared to the Ultimate. I only took the stock seat for a 50 mile ride, didn't like it. I'm 6' 190 Lbs with 32 inch arms but I do have risers on my bike. My seat seemed to be higher in the front than the back. I don't slide around or move with the big boy. It does seem to keep me back all the way in the seat, I don't slide forward or anything like that.

Many like the Ultimate seats. They are better than stock. But, I'd be remiss if not giving my 2cents. The Russell is the way to go in my opinion. It's going to take a lot longer, and I don't know if the Covid has added to that. Good luck in the quest.

I went with a Hartco for my 2000 I/S and it should be here this week. I’ll report on it after trying it out but the owner was quite knowledgeable, built it to my weight/height, and the price was right. My stock Interstate seat scrunches my privates, allows me to slide around when I don’t want to, and feels like a brick after a 250 mile day. Riding to InZane convinced me to look around!

I went from a Stock seat on my 99 IS to a Russel Custom. I'm very satisfied with the feel and they were very thorough in their process. Also something to consider is that Russel allows for 18mos unlimited adjustments on the seat. This is much more than any of the other custom seat companies.
The first seat put me too high and I sent it back for an adjustment, which is now perfect.
Good Luck! Jersey

I put the Hartco seat on my I/S as soon as it arrived but haven’t ridden with it yet because it’s been raining steady since Saturday. I chose the backrest model w/separate pillion and stitched flames for a bit of bling. ll make a ride report as soon as I can, and hope to have a Hartco-Russell comparison if all goes well Friday!
