If you find and remove #7 on this drawing: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1998/gl1500ct-a-valkyrie-tourer/frame you will see what happened to the stopper on the steering stem, which is the block below #10, the upper one, on this drawing: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1998/gl1500ct-a-valkyrie-tourer/steering-stem

Not sure what you can do, short of replacing the stem.

Are you saying I’m missing a part?

There was another thread just last week on a handlebar stop (at top of tree) that got chipped just enough for contact at full lock on one side.  That's what WintrSol is talking about looking for.

After reading the above I went to check my I/S to see if it touches the radiator.  I found that I have just about the thickness of a putty knife between radiator and fork.  Is that normal?

The custom radiator cap covers obviously are going to stick out more than just the OE cap too.

I don't know anything about standard/tourer radiator trim stuff.

I agree, the forks seem to be hitting the trim (x). As 0leman said on his I/S there's only "about the thickness of a putty knife between radiator and fork." The trim doesn't seem flush that added to the trim's thickness.

Any bike I've ever had that top radiator trim installed on would exhibit same.

Ditto certain brands/sizes of aftermarket radiator cap covers.

Two things.

One.  It appears your radiator topper may be installed improperly. I would guess the front is positioned over the grill. That puts it a tad farther away from the radiator.

Two. I have that trim. But it doesn’t stick out forward as much as yours. And mine barely misses on the left side and barely touches on the right side but it does touch on the right side.

I will try and adjust it or remove it...

I agree with Chris. The trim should be between the front screen and the radiator. Looks like the trim is in front of the screen.
