So I thought this would be an excellent topic since we are nearing the middle of Fall which as we all know leads to winter and wintertime illnesses and that C-19 has been floating around looking for weakened immune systems.

Just as an FYI I’m not a health food nut. I like my red meat, pizza, pasta, potatoes, chicken and all the good stuff.

Its been a widely accepted fact that some vitamins are very beneficial in fending off or reducing the chance of C-19 hitting a person hard. Boosting the immune system is just preventative maintenance for the body.

So if anyone wants to add their home remedies or experiences with different herbs and vitamins this may be beneficial to someone along the way. Contrary to what some may believe I’m not for people catching the virus, getting sick or dying.

I’ve been taking a Centrum Silver multi-vitamin off and on for a couple years, but since last January it’s been part of a daily regimen.

I’m also taking:

Vitamin D3...2000IU daily this is equivalent to sunshine and essential to the body’s natural immune system.  It’s is said that between 2000-5000IU daily is a sufficient dose depending on your time spent outdoors. The good thing about D3 is it that it does not deplete from your system like many vitamins it is stored in your fat cells.

Vitamin C Supplement an old time go to for being sick. Right now only 500mg daily but will be increased to 1000 soon.

Zinc. It is said 50mg daily is an excellent dosage to help fight sickness and C-19

Centrum Silver is mixed with several vitamins and I’m not saying anyone has to take this specific vitamin choose what is best for you.

Centrum Silver contains;
Vitamin C 60mg
Vitamin D3 1000IU
Zinc 11mg

So since I also take a supplement of Zinc I’ve been splitting 50mg tables in half so I’m getting appx 36mg per dose. Too much can cause a little heartburn from what I’ve read. Too much Zinc is copper depletion. 50mg is the max daily recommendation.

Vitamin C well I thing everyone knows vitamin C I’d lost in your urine. The body only uses what it needs and expels the rest.

I hope this thread is well received and becomes helpful and others will add to the mix their experiences and some good recommendations to the mix. Maybe some good teas or easy to make drinks...especially if they taste good or can be mixed with ice cream or chocolate syrup maybe.

Let’s fight this bug and get past all the scary stuff.

Generally, we try to eat "healthy" because we're  both type 2 Diabetics, but we are different in where we are at with prescriptions, etc.

Supplements
Morning
1000 mg Vit C /5.5 mg Zinc
2000 mg Cinnamon
500 mg krill oil
2 fiber capsules
Multi vitamin comparable to Centrum Silver
capsule 10 strain probiotic
Me -
120 mg sudafed
her
100 mg CO Q 10
600 mg Ibuprofen
wants to add 2000 units Vit D

Evenings
800 mg niacin
1 low dose aspirin

In addition - we have our prescriptions.

For recovery from recent M/C accident - I'm currently doing 440 mg Naproxium twice daily + muscle relaxer and skipping the low dose aspirin for now.

It should be noted that not all vitamins, pills, etc. are all inclusive for everyone to use, please take meds/pills of any kind with a grain of salt they do not work for all and IMO the more pills you take, the worse ill you can become with possible side effects from some.

I for one am not on any meds/pills/vitamins and unless really really need to, plan on being med free (knock on wood) for a few more years anyways....    Am sure a multivitamin of some kind would be fine though I presume?  Wife takes daily those gummy chew ones and she slips me one every once in a while like a gummy bear... My outlook is that keeping healthy in any environment has as much to do with what one DOESN'T put in their body as much as what one DOES put in their body. For me, eating a relatively healthy diet by limiting the amount of processed foods and other not so healthy stuff goes a long way in building up resistances to all types of viruses, etc.
Personally, I take Vitamins C,D,E religiously and also Zinc and a few others that the Mrs has determined are good for me...she's a Certified Holistic Nutritionist with extensive training and experience in homeopathic medicines and sports nutrition. A lot of the vitamins that come in pill form are also in everyday foods that are readily available to those who choose to include them in their regular diet. I'm no health "freak" who condemns others for living differently than I do or preaches a certain lifestyle, I've just learned over the past 4 decades that for me, I'm usually (always?) better off when I listen to my better half in matters such as this...it's done me well so far Smiley

You know you’re right.

Maybe I was wrong to post this.

Maybe solicitation of medicinal recommendations was a bad thing. People should not just take vitamins or supplements just on the word of others without research or asking a medical professional such as a doctor or a nutritionalist.

If the moderator believes this thread should be removed then based on that I would not object.

I should have thought this through a little better before posting it, I had no bad intentions behind it, I know many people are very involved in their own health and have read several times on the use of herbs and supplements and I thought a thread directly related to the fighting of cold, flu and especially C-19 would be a good reference for others to go to for some guidelines or guidance.

I wasn't trying to slam you or anything at all just my thoughts on taking unnecessary meds even if vitamins.   If people want to take others advice on vitamins that work for them and we are all grown ups and can make our own decisions on if they will do good or harm.

I didn’t take it as a slam, I just thought you brought up a good point which I overlooked when I made the original post. We are adults and free to make our own conclusions and decisions, I just didn’t take into account the implications of lay persons making suggestions of medication for others.

I was just trying to possibly help others who may want to take extra precautions during this upcoming winter.

As I said if this is in fact a thread that the moderator deems inappropriate or if anyone objects to it then by all means it should be removed.

need more Vit D3.   in NJ the sun is only strong enough to cause a skin reaction from late may to early sept.  there are websites for anybody to find out the sun strength for were they live.
Further more as we age some reports state after 40yr old we start losing the ability to make D3 in our skin from the sun.   some studies show the face makes more than other parts of the skin.
only way to know if u are getting is supplement liquid drops for 5k then get a blood test to see level.

most Vit C today is from china.   the brand Doctors Best does not use C from China.
for best absorption when it is taken and how can bring serum levels close to Intravenous Vit C therapy.
https://www.townsendletter.com/article/online-unexpected-oral-vitamin-c-response/

the best Vit C to use along with glutathione is Liposomal supplements. latest technology, some studies show it compares to Intravenous Vit C.
https://liponaturals.com/

Zinc many types out. one of the best to use is zinc citrate, men need 50-100mg about five days a week.  there isn't a problem with copper absorption if the zinc and it should be taken at a different time than the multi.
a new version which also helps keep the gut healthy which has been shown to be extremely important for immune health is Zinc-L-Carnosine.  Again Doctors Best has a very good one.

Daily Vitamins, just about every one on the shelf including centrum is posion and basically doing very little and some reports detrimental effects due to most are synthetic and from coal tar.
https://bodyhealth.com/blogs/news/synthetic-vitamin-guide

one of the best vitamin supplements to use
 https://nutrigold.com/collections/multis/products/one-daily-mens-multi-gold?variant=32103997210764

B-Vitamins are also very important.  best way is taking additional Brewers Yeast Tablets later in the day after taking the multi.

I get most of my supplements from www.vitacost.com

u are causing problems taking calcium.  make sure u are taking Organic calcium and not In-organic calcium which is in many things, because it is cheap, basically its ground up rock/minerals.  problem with in-organic the body absorbs very little of it and what it does it cannot use and has hard time excreting it from the body. so the body's only option is to deposit it into the joints, arteries and brain. latest research indicates, age related joint problems, brain problems and clogged arteries is related to calcium deposits.
magnesium supplementation is the key. without magnesium u can't absorption calcium from your food which is always in abundance.
this will provide everything u wanted to know about mag based on Dr mildred Seeligs work. I've had her book for thirty yrs. she died a few yrs ago in her late 90s.

Wife is an herbalist so much of what I get is made by her

If I feel run down I take a bulb of garlic, put in garlic press and add to a qt of boiling water just after I turn off the water. Cover and drink it after a few minutes including all the garlic
Usually I am fine by morning plus it keeps the wife off my side of the bed   angel

Mornings I have a fruit shake some whole milk organic yogurt (the whole house is organic no choice)
strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, greens (spinach kale or squash or all 3) and some tomatoes and hot water with some Calm (magnesium powder- no more calf cramps in the middle of the night)

vitamin  d3 drops, and 200mg q10

Around 2pm I will put an emergenC in water

Rarely get sick more than overnight except for the chinese cooties

That garlic concoction sounds interesting, I like garlic but that sounds a bit tough.

However Heat up some olive oil, sautéed your garlic, add some washed and chopped escarole, add some chicken broth and simmer you have the basic of an Italian classic escarole soup. You can add some white kidney beans for ‘scarole and beans”. Adding a chunk of ham, or potatoes helps it go down easier. It wasn’t one of my favorites growing up.

Thanks for the info though, you must go through a ton of fruit.
