Two weekends ago went for a weekend away to Hope,BC with my son ( on the bike of course !! )
In Hope bumped into a fellow rider ( not part of the 1 %'ers who were frequenting the Home Restaurant
at the time !! ) who asked if I had collector's plates on the bike. I answered no-as I assumed there was the
25 year waiting period, in order to qualify. He mentioned that I should look into it, as there are bikes that
qualify before the 25 years are up, owing to their limited  production run status. Anyone know if my 2000 IS might qualify for collector plates ?

In Wisconsin it's 20 years for collector or Hobbyist plates.

Your 2000 IS doesn't meet the limited production criteria for the earlier Collector status. I've looked into it already for my '99 and was advised by the ICBC Collector dept. it's 25 years.
I just got my Collector plates for my new to me ' 78 Wing though... another couple years and my Valk will have the same... 2 old bikes for this old guy  Smiley

Canoodle... I'm out in Agassiz. If you plan to come out this way again, drop me a PM and maybe we can meet up for a coffee.

Here's a link to all the info from ICBC... https://www.icbc.com/vehicle-registration/collector-mods/Pages/Collector-vehicles.aspx

I bought my Valkyrie in Germany in 2014 and got her imported to Canada in 2018. I got a one day insurance to pick her up from customs and then rode over to ICBC. The ICBC guy had absolutely no clue and wanted to send me off for a vehicle inspection. I told him that the bike just got here from Europe, is older than 15 years and doesn't need an inspection. Which is kinda ridiculous... if you buy a bike in another province here in Canada and bring it to BC, it needs a VI. An older bike coming from Europe can just go on the road without any checking. He then just made sure that the VIN is correct on the bike and documents and that was it... sorry, got a bit off topic here  Cheesy

The application process is pretty straight forward and they want to have good quality pictures from every angle of the bike. They won't just hand out the collector plate, they want to find a little dent, scratch and what not. If you get the collector plate, you can only ride for pleasure, not to work or school. I will try the application process in 2024. I changed the looks of the bike a bit but still have all the original parts. It definitely would be nice to save some $$$$ having a collector plate on the bike.

Hey Mike

Definitely hit you up when next in your neck of the woods. On the way back from Hope did Hwy 7, so passed right by you, Did Hwy 1 going out. Man your IS looks so cool with that Corbin...I'm still trying to hunt one down.

Bikes and trailers were not required to have an out-of-province safety when I came back to BC in 2014 - it may have changed since then.

A limited production collector is one that has had less than 1500 of a model, or the company no longer is in business.

The problem is, Honda will not give out production figures for ANY of their vehicles, therefore there is no proof. I tried for years on the Honda Shadow ACE Tourer, since the forum feels over their 4 year run, that only 6300 pieces where ever made of all those years total. Canada Honda will tell me how many where imported into Canada in a given year (98' was about 260).

It is believed that 1000's where made each year, but unknown how many of each model, with 3 models in the 99'-01' years, most likely we have too many made to qualify anyways.

We all need to sit back and wait for those 25 years, one reason I've gotten a 99' IS, instead of an 01'.

3 years and 3 months to go!! 3 more riding years, then collector plates.

As for the modifications on our bike. When I got plates for my CM400, if had aftermarket saddle bags and a wind shield, I specified that it had appropriate year specific aftermarket items (any safety mode is acceptable), and it was approved.

A motorcycle is (was) easier than a car, when I did it only 4 pictures, left/right, front/back. Car needed 12, inside and out.
