Instrument Cluster Light Replacement

I need to replace the lamp in my speedometer housing.  It appears I will have to remove the windscreen, then simply remove a single screw that holds the housing on and then I will have access to the lamp socket. 

Anything else I should be aware of? 

I will also replace the one on the tachometer as well.

I don't remember doing this before but.   

Also I will be using the OEM bulbs.

Do yourself a favor and replace the OEM bulbs with LEDs.  They are brother, last longer and use less power.

Yes.  It would be much easier to do if you didn't run with that windscreen.

Funny how no answers to your question just advise you didn’t ask for.

So for the speedometer you’ll need a jewelers screwdriver to remove the tiny screw in the center of the trip reset knob. Remove the knob then what you said will work.

I found it worth the extra steps to dismount the gauges from their bracket to see better what you are doing replacing the bulbs. The long skinny chrome bolt in front and a 10mm nut underneath.

Thanks Chrisj CMA... I forgot all about the knob to reset the odometer.  I wondered about removing the housings as part of the process.   Give me something to do for the next few days.

Replacement process has been completed.  I used OEM bulbs.  Only one was burned out.  Kept the other as a used spare.

No issues and I got to clean the back side of the windscreen. 

I was impressed as to how well the parts came apart and went back together and the overall quality of the wiring and connections.  Not bad for a bike that is 17 years old.
