I have an HD tour pack on my '00 Std, mounted on an IS trunk frame.  It shakes quite a bit going down the road, mostly looks like front to rear shake.  Everything is tight.

It's hard to tell for sure looking in the mirrors, but I'm wondering if it might be just the lid (with rack) shaking, not the whole box.  I realize if the heavy lid shakes it would shake the sides some also.

Anyone have a tour pack and notice anything similar?

Thanks

Uh just guessin here BUT it came designed to shake?  2funny All the time shake or just on accel or decel. What nearly put a giant hurt on my shortly after I  bought my I/S I found out later-severe head shake on decel-was the upper shock bushings were toast. I replaced ALL 4 shock bushings and the difference were like night and day. Now when I do a rear end service shock bushings are changed out.

I experimented with a few hard trunks on my standard. I used an aftermarket rear rack rather than the IS brackets. One trunk that I used and liked was a Givi E55 Maxia. I had a couple people tell me that it seemed to shake a bit. When I would grab the bag and shake it, I watched the rack to see if it was flexing. What I found was that the bottom of the case would flex quite a bit, but the mounting platform was solid. Because the Givi is meant to be removable, I decided to go with something else. If that was a hard-mounted trunk, I would have tried to support it better; a stiff shim between the case and rack that was wide enough to stabilize the case better. You can buy sheets of Delrin and other "plastics" on Ebay and the like, in different colors and thicknesses.

To make a long story short, I'd manually shake the bag and see what the flex point is.

Oil Burner ya made me rethink this a bit. The I/S trunk is comprised of 2 layers or an inner and outer shell. Candle be lit but NOT quite bright nuff first time around. RIDE SAFE.

It could be that the hinge pins are worn and loose. I found this to be the case on my Interstate trunk which had a rattle. I fixed it buy boring out the hinges and using an oversized hinge pan.
