52-48. Trump has fulfilled his most important campaign promise. It may be the only reason he came out on top in 2016. There is more good things to come if we can keep from tripping over our own prejudice.

Going on the assumption that Biden's gonna cheat his way into the Whitehosue, this small victory tonight is the only thing that gives me a small glimmer of hope for the republic to survive...

Well that is good news like the construction of the boarder wall. But at least Trumps boarder wall only cost 5 billion and a website for Obama care cost 2.5 billion. Of the two the boarder wall is much more cost effective.

Also the first ever SCOTUS Justice with school age children...

Trump has fulfilled his most important campaign promise.
He got the Mexicans to pay for the wall ? I never cared who paid for it as long as he kept the promise to build it and keep the southern boarder as secure as possible. I’m not anti immigration, I’m anti illegal immigration. If my grandparents had come through Ellis Island and gain legal status, then that’s good enough for everyone else who wants to come here. Illegal aliens are here illegally, they want citizenship yet they break the law for entry and claim they’re law abiding citizens.

He got the Mexicans to pay for the wall ? I think you missed John's point. Many, many people were unsure of Trump and only voted for him based on his list of future SCOTUS nominees. This was his most important campaign promise. If he hadn't made a nomination now, he would have lost many votes.

With all that Trump has been accused of lying about, his shortcomings can't hold a candle to Obama. Somewhere on my computer I have a file that is about two pages long(possibly longer) and lays out the majority of Obama's actions that not only fall outside the law, but in many cases really stretch the truth. Lets not take up that losing argument. Re. Mexico paying for the wall, it all stemmed from the NAFTA agreement that Trump trumped. In doing so, it leveled the playing field with the final rewrite, thereby costing Mexico tons more but equalized the trade rules with both them and Canada. Up until then, the U.S. was getting it without so much as a kiss or dinner.

A great day for America. All 45 Democrats and two independents who caucus with the Democrats opposed her confirmation. They should be so very very proud of themselves. Just to refresh your recollection, Ruth Bader Ginsberg's senate confirmation vote was YEAs 96, NAYs 3, Not Voting 1

You can keep your insurance, it was Bush that started Fast and furious, I didn't raise taxes once, the United States has doubled our exports, for the first time since 1990, American manufacturers are creating new jobs.
So its not about the lie, but who tells them. Emotions, are more important than truth to some.
Trump knew when he was elected he needed the Senate to be able to pass the policies he wanted. This is one example of Trumps planning that has paid off.

There’s already talk the APC + 3 will begin badgering him ASAP on their policies. It’s my belief if he doesn’t begin to play their game, they will attack his “health and/or mental abilities “ and push to have him removed. I believe there’s a lot of truth in his gaffs as well as his outright statements not only on fossil fuels but the 2nd Amendment as well. People forgetting about that because he hasn’t been pressed on that issue at all in the last several months. He wants the rifles and handguns.

You probably should read up a little before Election Day. That's not what he said in the debate. He backtracked later. Was he lying at the debate? And while you're at it, why don't you explain how the oil industry is 'subsidized'. Do they have a guaranteed market like ethanol producers, because the EPA forces refiners to use their product? Do they have a guaranteed market like wind and solar producers, because state RPS mandates force utilities to buy their expensive, intermittent power? Hundreds of oil producers have gone bankrupt during the pandemic. The same hasn't happened to the protected ethanol, wind, and solar industries.

Given Justice Barrett's qualifications and endorsements from her peers, including the Bar Association, the vote should have been unanimous.
Every Senator took an oath to support and defend the Constitution. To vote to deny the American People an incredibly qualified jurist to be a Justice on our Highest Court is a betrayal of that oath, The Constitution, and the American People.
The betrayal is on record.

I agree Mike, but the D's play to their base now more than ever.
They want free and easy abortion forever, and they'd like to take as many of our guns as possible. Thus the no vote.
I think it unlikely that Roe v Wade (however wrongly decided) will ever be completely overruled, even by any conservative SCOTUS majority. The case is stare decisis for decades, and is relied on by the Gs, by the people, and by the medical profession. Roe said it was OK in the first trimester, with limits thereafter. This of course is nowhere in the Constitution, and was social engineering by the liberal court at the time. It's the 2d and 3d trimester and after live birth abortions, and public funding and all the surrounding details that are at risk (and should be). But I don't ever see it being made wholly illegal.
Fortunately, unlike abortion, we have a constitutional amendment against infringement of our right to keep and bear arms (the same arms used by all military and police forces, except of course unconstitutional NFA restrictions).

Shades of Grey
If you can not or will not see them, there can be no agreement on issues of the day.
IMHO Roe was wrong. Why? Tthe 10th amendment states clearly that all such rights that the people did not give to the federal government are reserved to the states and the people
Study history, we had additional colonies filling up with settlers because people needed to escape religious persecution in the already existing colonies. Separation of church and state recognized this and the fact the Church of England was itself responsible for much pain in Europe. No coincidence that George Washington travelled to Touro Synagogue in Rhode Island to show the proposed Bill of Rights.
I think the new Justice will be good for america, she understands the constitution

Fortunately, unlike abortion, we have a constitutional amendment against infringement of our right to keep and bear arms (the same arms used by all military and police forces, except of course unconstitutional NFA restrictions).
The Roe v Wade decision was, and is, a great model to use to show the need for a conservative judiciary. Clearly, the 10th Amendment should have prevailed. But a quick discussion of the basic dynamics. If a conservative based judiciary makes decisions unpopular, or even immoral, but based on existing laws and the Constitution, the remedy is that the legislature creates new law or amends the Constitution so the judiciary has a basis to render a different decision. With a "liberal" based judiciary there is no remedy. Any new law or even new Constitutional amendment would be discarded and the "liberal" judiciary would continue to legislate from the bench. That is what they do. The only real fix on this would be impeachment of the judiciary. But even then, like now, there would be enough legislators that are content with the judiciary doing the legislator's job. In the case of Roe v Wade, the decision should have gone along the 10th amendment lines. If this was unacceptable to the masses, legislative remedies or Constitutional remedies would be available. Now maybe those remedies would have failed. That would mean that the remedies would be wrong.

Liberal or conservative for a Supreme Court justice should not be an issue. The job of the Supreme Court is to interpret and apply the laws of the land. Justice Barrett repeatedly told her questioners that applies the law as it applies without regard for her personal preference of whether the laws are morally or ethically wrong. Even having been told that the Senators of the lesser party insisted on concentrating not on her ability to apply the law but on her personal values of right and wrong.
Justice Amy Barrett is no one's puppet. Justice Amy Barrett will do the job of a Supreme Court justice as should all nine of the justices.
As to Roe vs Wade if it is overturned it does not make abortion illegal but only sends it to the individual states to decide. I believe that is true of murder. It seems it should be no less for the killing of a baby.

No reply? I'll help you out... The oil and gas industry doesn't receive any government subsidies. If you look up subsidy you'll learn it's a monetary payment or grant made by a government entity to aid an industry, charity, or in some cases another government entity. Actually, 'subsidies for the oil industry' is a far cry from the truth. It's a myth. Maybe you should read up on the subject yourself. Like any other business, the oil and gas industry takes advantage of tax deductions and credits. Here's one of the biggest: a producer can deduct the cost of drilling a well from their tax bill. That's hardly unusual, as any business can deduct the cost of investment. The only difference is that oil and gas companies are permitted to expense (rather than amortize over several years) part of the cost, because of the high risk and very real possibility the capital will never be recovered. Other examples are a deduction for taxes paid to other nations, and the use of limited partnerships to allow investors to avoid double taxation, both of which are used by other industries. To call these 'subsidies' is absurd and dishonest. Maybe it's because the left loves to use deceptive terms to hide their real agenda. Abortion is really just a 'choice'. Someone who breaks the law to enter the country is an 'undocumented immigrant', as if they left some papers at home. Confiscating a law abiding citizen's private property is 'gun safety'. And when a business pays billions in taxes, but takes the same deductions other industries do, that's a 'subsidy'!

The all time, hands down deceptive label ever used in federal legislation in US history was... The Affordable Healthcare Act (all 20,000 pages).
