I encourage everyone to do something like this, then on the back write a few things of who you were and what you did in the military.  It may not mean much to you but it will future generations.

Okay Senior Chief- what's SW and what do they do ? (I didn't have much reason to learn about the Seabees in that area).

(After Googling) - Steelworker. Ok - could be useful is setting temporary / semi- and Permanent structures for shore facilities. Also sounds like a skill that would be highly transferable to the civilian world after you left the service.

USAF '57='63, E-4. Bombing system elec. tech on B-52's & B-47's. Elec. tech on B-52 carried GAM-77 Houndog ASM missile. Had a feel good moment: missile school salutatorian, beat by a kid with eidetic memory. Kid was amazing....and weird. Me....I was just weird! Grin

Point of interest...to me anyway. I had first tried to enlist in the Marines but after a rather long day on my feet was rejected. I had been clipped playing football in Jr. College and did major damage to my foot and ankle. The long day took its toll and was caught with a slight limp so was rejected. A couple weeks later I enlisted in the USAF, they weren't as fussy.  Wink

Yeah, before the Air Force, I talked to the Marines and the Navy.

I got the worst interview you could ever imagine from a female navy Lt (like in supply, not a JAG, which made no sense at all).  The Navy never even gave me an up or down either way, and I was so pissed, I never called them back.  The Marines were great, they even were going to send a man out to run me all over my home town (in the dead of winter) like a personal trainer, to get me up to speed on the physical requirements.  I wasn't in terrible shape, but I had been in classrooms for 9 years.

The Air Force commissioning deal was so much better, and so was the worldwide possibilities for assignments.

A Line Officer would have been better, but in truth - recruiters can be from anything (the job is what we would call a 1000- series billet - any designator).

Glad you were happy with the Air Force.

When you are seeking a direct appointment commission as a Judge Advocate, you need to be interviewed by a Jag.  If you got undergrad and law degrees and passed a bar, presumably you can read, write, walk and talk OK, but can you lawyer?  My navy lieutenant was not even a recruiter, just got handed my interview as some extra duty.

My (on paper credentials and) great interview at Wright Patterson AFB with a USAF Col Jag was what got me in.

I wonder if the Navy was having doctors interviewed by supply lieutenants?   Grin  (sorry)

My mistake was going to Selfridge AFB (now ANG base), which had detachments from all services located there for a Navy interview.  Later, when speaking to HQ USAF JAG about my application, the guy told me do not go to Selfridge, go to a real AFB.  So I drove to Dayton.
