I've been riding the 1500 mostly lately... I changed it back to
solo after The Fall Color ride and rode it to Mac's Veteran's Day
ride at Cookeville...

I changed handlebars on the 1800 right before InZane, and I didn't do a
good job of routing some cables and lines. I've been avoiding the bike
until I could re-route them. This time I took the bike further apart so I
could route things just so - using the service manual chart as a guide.

I took the bike for a nice ride today, with everything on the handlebars
working, it is just a really good motorcycle...

But if you had to choose only one, Biden’s green new deal, only one bike per household, which would it be?

For the first time in 46 years of riding, I am now riding two bikes. A little bit strange after all this time... when it's just a local day ride I find myself sometimes coming home after a couple hours to switch up bikes in order to get both ridden. I'm sure it's just that it's all new to me and I'll settle into more of a routine. The plan is to use the old Wing for bombing around the neighborhood, heading into town for a coffee, etc, while the Valk will be for longer day rides and for trips. Of course I now also have to maintain two bikes. The Valk will come off the road for a couple months here pretty quick for her annual rear drive and other service and some other stuff I want to do with her, while the Wing will be ready to go whenever a decent weather day pops up during the Winter.

When the new 1800 Valks came out I didn't like 'em. Just couldn't get used to the looks. Over the years however, the looks have really grown on me. Especially in Black and  with those Corbin bags, I really like that bike. Even that Russel seat looks good on there... much better than on the 1500's I think. And, everyone I talk to that rides one, says it's the best bike they've ever ridden in terms of performance, handling, etc.  cooldude

I like your wing... If I was to get a 2nd bike, I'd think about one of them, or maybe a Standard Inline 4 (ala CB1100).

But if you had to choose only one, Biden’s green new deal, only one bike per household, which would it be?

Is that a real thing?  The one bike per household?  If it is, we're in big trouble.  But, what difference would it make.  No matter how many you own, you can only ride one at a time.

A little literary license there on my part. I’m sure Biden will decree you can have as many bikes as you want, they just have to be electric cooldude

well, my wife and I had this conversation today about 1 vs. 5 cycles, more like bickering back and forth.  She says SELL something ANYTHING, but I cannot fathom getting ride of 4 of them, one is the kids cycle being the 5th.    Reason bickering,  I had to change brake rotors in front of car been overdue and ONLY got 1 done since stuck on rusted front rotor took forever to POP off.   Anyways,  I had to organize the garage 5 cycles on 1 side of the garage with 1 push mower as well.  NOT fun.  was in 30 mph winds and 35 degrees outside so had to get 1 car in garage to do it today.  2 are VAlks and 2 are scooters. Problem I have is one scooter is 250cc and worth 1 grand and like putzing around 15-20 miles or less on it hop on and go.  2nd scooter is 650cc and cruiser comfort all day long fast quick, and comfy with good wind protection.  2 real cycles are 98 valk 81K miles tourer and 2001 valk I/S 44K miles,  seem to not want to let 1 of them go either.   Right now overnight her bicycle and canoe and one other push mower is sitting outside in backyard overnight NO ROOM in garage.. 2funny

I do have a tough time driving all of them every few weeks though in WI short summers which is becoming an issue on the valks anyways.  Last weekend ran a good full tank out of the I/S but the tourer has gas in it from near 2 months ago both 91 octane NON ethanol but would be nice to get out tourer again but not happening gotta put them up in next 2 weeks for snow is coming.

I still think the front/headlight looks like it was designed by Hasbro, the
rest of it is OK, though... Honda delivered the naked Goldwing and I've
done my best to turn it into a "Tourer". I was sitting on the bike, chocked
up in its new shed, daydreaming about something the other day... after
a half hour or forty-five minutes it occurred to me how comfortable that
seat/backrest combo is...  cooldude

I owned only one bike for years traded as my taste changed but found there was no one bike does all. So I now have two and believe 3 to be ideal. The 3rd being and adventure or off road type. The dilemma becomes how not to neglect one. I’m lucky to have a decent commute (160 miles) so I can rotate them and save miles on my car...

Ya, I forgot about that headlight...it is the one thing that has not grown on me. I've never seen an 1800 Valk with an aftermarket headlight though...there has to be something out there that would work.

Funny how there's always one thing that doesn't seem to fit...even when you like everything else about a bike. I think Honda really nailed it with the 1500 Valk in terms of esthetics, and I fell in love with the Interstate right off the bat. All the curves just flowed together and then that big sweet chrome 6 sticking out. Nicest looking fairing I'd ever seen...BUT then it had those big square mirrors that every time I looked at the bike, just bugged me as they didn't look like they belonged. I think they shoulda' come with these mirrors to begin with...

Two bikes?  Yes I do.  Has anyone been given a multi-bike discount on insurance?  I can't find it here.  With liability only insurance, the coverage will pay someone for my mistake.

If I ride one motorcycle 10,000 miles a year, or two bikes 5,000 miles a year each, I still have 10,000 miles of risk.  One rider should equal one price.  The policies available to me don't work that way. Anybody know different?
It's worse than that. 2 bikes, a motorhome, a car, a truck, a boat and trailer, a flatbed trailer. All total between my wife and I maybe 14,000 miles a year. No discounts that I'm aware of.

I like your Wing Mike.  I have an affinity for older bikes as well.  But my "second" bike is really a scooter.  I have a 2007 Burgman 650 that I thought would be good for my wife, but she is afraid of it.  I have been riding it a lot, but my Valk is still number one.

Just 2? -- I have different tastes in motorcycles, and really if it has 2 wheels its cool.
Buy mostly I have maintained at least 1 sporty bike in the house and 1 cruiser type in the house.
I need/like both.  On occasion when I do a project on one or the other, I miss the style thats down....

I doubt I will ever be at one bike at a time....

_ I never get guys that have 3 or 4 of the same bike......

YES,  try Progressive insurance ONLY one I have called outta 10 or so that sometimes the MORE cycles you add the lower the premiums go full coverage on 5 cycles, 1 is the kids.  Kid added this spring buying a 1982 honda cb450 he sold as well as a 2005 yamaha fjr1300 he also sold this year.  Sorta glad he got rid of both though since 7 cycles is an issue storing and the fjr1300 was by far the MOST expensive to insure.  Right now I have 5 cycles shoe-horned into 1/2 a garage (20x24 full garage) so as to make the wife happy to fit her SUV inside garage in the winter.  These old cycles 2001 and older do not cost much to insure at all with Progressive all are under 100 bucks each for full coverage for 1 full year.

ONLY way I would ever have 3 or 4 cycles of the same kind was if the wife kicks me outta the house for buying yet another cycle in the dog lb. gotta get a dog I guess to sleep outside with it?  But,  our Valks have come down in price on some so low is VERY HARD to resist when and if you see one for say 2500 bucks, right???

There's a fellow, maybe he's only on the 1800 board, who fabricated
a slick fairing for his 1800 that has a round headlight...
