If the student loan thing goes through, I'd like to personally thank all the plumbers, electricians, truck drivers, machinists, day laborers, etc from helping to pay off my wife's student loans she racked up going to a private college to get her bachelors and masters!

That idea is kind of a slap in the face of all those Kids that put themselves through college by working several jobs so they wouldn't have huge loans to pay off or couldn't get the loans in the first place.

It's a bigger slap in the face to American taxpayers.
It's bad enough I have to pay real property taxes to school other people's children.
Why should the American taxpayer pay for bloated, exorbitant and socialist training college degrees?
Here's a novel idea, you pay for what you want and I'll pay for what I want.
You borrow money go to college, you pay it off all by yourself (I did).

What makes Serk and his wife any less special than someone with hundreds of thousands of dollars in school loan debt that does not work? If the government is stupid enough to pay off these student loans they get every outstanding one. They dont get to pick and choose.

Its even more of a slap in the face to anyone who had a student loan and paid it off.
Its just one more way of "buying" votes.

This is just another example of the democrats making something big over something that really is very small in order to impose taxes.
The average school loan debt is less than $35,000. That's the price of moderately equipped new car. The average obtainer of a bachelor's degree will make about a million more in their lifetime than the average person without the degree. THAT is an amzing payout for such a small investment.
And with today's low interest rates and long term notes, and various other programs (income contingancey), and deferrments, there really is NO emergency.

"PAID in FULL".
Now, there is a time / payment schedule that you should follow, but otherwise - like any other loan - it's a loan until it is "Paid in Full". And both me and my wife have paid off our student loans (long before I left the service).

I don't know anything about them. Never had one. I just figured they'd be set up like other loans with a payment amount and duration. When Serk said "likely until they die" that sounds like a lot longer than 30 years.

Did you read above ? “UNTIL PAID IN FULL” not that hard of a concept really. If it takes 5 yrs or 50 yrs. “UNTIL PAID IN FULL”. Means just what it says.

I paid my (small) loans off during service too. Even though all student loans can be deferred during active military service, but you have a steady job, you pay off your debts. I took my time making the payments for some years, then paid it off. And O2 and O3 money may be better than most enlisted, but it was hardly large money (barely medium money). When I separated service and went to USDVA (at 40), I was working with a number of new attorneys with a $200K education nut (yuppy private and ivy league schools). I would rather be a skilled laborer, than enter the workforce with debt as large as a house (and $200K would get you a very nice house at that time). In fact, for a $200K education debt, I'd have to get a blow job every other day for the duration of the payoff to make it even close to worth it. But not from the university loan officers, or professors. Of course loan forgiveness is vote buying. It's all they do.

With all those spawn ya have, you might stand a better chance at getting it than I will. The recent proposal I saw was to pay up to $50,000. The rumblings I heard was a $50k payoff (Which wouldn't even halve ours) but there's a maximum annual income threshold, if you're been too successful, not gubmint cheese for you good sir.

Have they floated an income threshold? I could work part time for awhile. LOL. Gimme my gubmint cheese... I've never had it. The article I was reading has some weasel words in it about "Up to 95% of" could get relief... (For the record, although this could help us immensely, it's still wrong and I'm entirely against it. But if it's gonna happen, damn skippy I'll fight for my share!)

Serk if they pass it, I would fight for it also.
What about the kids that went into debt only not to work? Not all who got student loans had life work out the way it was supposed to. We push to many into schools when finding a career does not require school, but gives them a big debt.
The school loans have been turned into regular collection agencies to collect. Incurring a system that can sometimes be less than human. They get a fast wake up call to the realities of life.
I guess the only way to address maybe the lack of good planning of some is to give free money to them and reward them for bad decisions.
To applaud politicians that dont solve the problem, but give our money away is ludicrous and we need to hold these politicians responsible to do their job, to fix or design programs that work.
Its a partially failed program what is Biden or any other politician going to do to fix it so we dont have to do this again?
Instead of making a true program that would help that takes into accounts the variations of life that all would be proud of we settle for scraps.
All the while the people who work and pay bills dont take out loans and pay taxes pay for the system and get no forgiveness.
This is actually the same discussion as immigration either use a hammer and give everyone citizenship or keep the system we have.
Taking a complete holistic approach to closing boarders, granting citizenship to those who work and pay taxes, rooting out the criminals, and stopping the unfairness of the system.
If we use the hammer and do not address the whole system we have accomplished, Nothing but put more wrong decisions and debt on the back of the children who are born, period.
In reality the system is a small step to socialism not independence. I cannot believe anyone would see this as good and actually don't look at it for what it is a failed program and failed politicians not fixing it yet buying votes.
I think what is kind of sadly funny If our child continued to spend our money we would sure know how to stop it, but politicians who are public servants and supposed to be careful with the public's money, hold a apple in front of our eyes and say we are going to forgive the loans and we forget to tell them what are you going to do to make sure this does not happen again since you failed to do it right the first time.

I heard, directly from AOC's, errr, I mean Biden's mouth that there is an upper limit of $125,000 max income.
File separately if the loan owner makes less that $125K.

If the student loan thing goes through, I'd like to personally thank all the plumbers, electricians, truck drivers, machinists, day laborers, etc from helping to pay off my wife's student loans she racked up going to a private college to get her bachelors and masters!
She (and you) could still pay off your obligations. There is a difference between being right and being stupid. If the debt is forgiven, those who have debt and still work will still be paying it off through higher taxes.
