Officer George looks like a plonker.
What a waste of everyone's time.

I wore mine into WalMart in Dahlonega GA yesterday. Didn't have a face mask with me.
No one looked cross eyed at me.

This incident occurred in Aug 2019, before everyone was required to wear masks. The manager had reason to be concerned; however, everything in the arrest was inappropriate. The cops and manager could have easily reviewed the tape. I'm usually pro-cop, but this was handled incorrectly. https://www.kold.com/2019/08/07/man-arrested-after-strange-call-walmart-sahuarita/

The title in the link you provided, states $250,000 SETTLEMENT REJECTED. Edit: For clarification, Mr. Pfaendler offered to settle with the city and department for $250,000 but the offer was rejected. You can find links to that information in the description.

I often wear my helmet into 7ll's (mainly one where I am well known for 25+ years; owner and most employees are friends). And other places where I am in and out in a few minutes. I don't care to screw with my helmet lock, and these are the places some dickweed could just grab my helmet off my bike and walk away with it.
However, I only wear (DOT) half helmets and my face is mostly visible. Visor up, but dark glasses on.
I've never had an issue or request to remove it from anyone, before or after the Chinese Cooties (and leftist power grab).
This Walmart manager was just getting even for being ignored, and clearly didn't think the rider was a risk to anyone after following him around and the guy just doing normal human shopping and offering no one any misconduct of any kind. This guy was polite and courteous and followed directions and Officer asshole was an asshole. He clearly even tried to provoke the rider into confrontation (and it didn't work). I would not likely have been as polite as this guy was.
I'm not a big fan of punishment civil suits, but in this case I could easily make an exception.
VA has an old southern law on wearing masks in public (KKK related), but I've never heard of it being used for helmet wearers. And I don't recall ever seeing a sign on any store asking or directing you not wear one. If you are going to call the cops and press for prosecution (and permanent tresspass debarment) for helmet wearing, you damn sure ought to post signs against it. And put it on your website.
OH, and the rider's first name is Freedom.
However, I would not walk around in public with music playing in my head, it's extremely poor operational security. (esp with a pistol on your person)

now with this pandemic where masks are required, what is wrong with leaving your cycle helmet down NO MASK into stores? What is the difference mask or helmet?
My wife asked me the other day if I am bringing a mask into the grocery stores said NO will wear my helmet in which I did no problems. Why not?
Now this instance was a huge mistake on both sides but the cyclists blaring music thru his helmet still in the store is a little bit too much IMO if he has it so loud he cannot see or hear someone talking to him. Kids nowadays play the music way way too loud, but I was young once and I did the same thing with a BOOMBOX on my shoulders jamming to AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and the like back in the 80's. Was not much of a headphone fan.
