Terrorist attack foiled aboard U.S. jetliner
ROMULUS, Mich. - A Nigerian man tried to light a powder aboard a commercial jetliner before it landed Friday in Detroit in what senior U.S. officials called an attempted act of terrorism.
Flight 253 with 278 passengers aboard was 20 minutes from the airport when it sounded like a firecracker had exploded, witnesses said. Passengers saw the attempted attack, and one of them jumped on the man and subdued him, an airline official told NBC News.
Stricter security measures were imposed on airline travel, but those were not specified.

I think the only answer will be barefoot & naked flights... that should give a whole new light on frequent flyer miles This should only apply to muslims. That would keep them off ALL planes forever. I dont think grandmas from passadena are a threat.

I think the only answer will be barefoot & naked flights... that should give a whole new light on frequent flyer miles Part of our problem is that we have taken a really ignorant approach to "security". The entire objective of "airline security" is to disarm and render impotent 100% of the passengers. How ridiculous! One small oversight; one tiny misconception of what might constitute a "threat" results in a complete failure of all the "security" efforts.
What if the objective was instead to prepare the mass of passengers on the aircraft to protect themselves? Allow them to carry on their own weapons, down to and including fingernail clippers and baby bottles. (Now there's a subject for a whole new rant.) Provide additional weaponry for those who may have arrived unprepared. How many hijackers (my apologies to the real Jacks of our midst) would it take to commandeer an airship populated in that manner?
We would certainly still be vulnerable to hijacking (Sorry again, Jacks) by a determined group of suicidal extremists, but it would take much more than a handful of bad guys amongst a group of multiple hundreds of legitimate passengers.
I offer one example to prove that my security scheme would be successful. How many cowboy movies, Wild West stories, have we seen or read in which almost everyone walked around with a six gun strapped to his hip? Now, think hard. How many of those stories were centered around a plot involving the forceful takeover (See how I avoided offending our Jacks once more?) of an airliner?
And that folks is how it would be if the way we behaved really did make sense.

I dont think grandmas from passadena are a threat. Thats just it. They would rather search granny from Passadena then a muslim for fear of being 'stereotyping' and being racists. That is what is BS. If 90% of the muslims are terrorist, search them. I thing people are more afraid of being labled the quoted.

and why is our President calling this a terrorist act while he considers 9/11 as a criminal manner (as evidenced by putting the 9/11 conspirators on trial in NY)?

They are heros......and it is sad, they probably do stand a chance at being sued.....it would have been better for themselves and the rest of the world if they would have broke his neck and killed him right there. We are at war with terror, hes a terrorist, he deserves to go meet his virgins immediately.

I still say put a pet pot belly pig on each plane and let it run loose. The muslems that want to blow things up wont take the chance of getting the pigs blood on them and the others wont care. NO that would be too easy. Thats not the way our govt. works.
