Did a search on this and did not come up with much. For over 20 yrs. the car tire on the rear has been used. All the rub problems have been solved on the width. ATT came about and I did not use it so did not pay any attention. I have seen three different sizes for the ATT, 175/80 at 26.9"/27" tall, 175/75 at 26.3" tall and 175/65 at 25" tall. What is the correct tire size? It can not be bought any more. I have been told the 195/65 will not rub at 26 tall. I see some one going to try a 185/75 at 26.9". When is too tall to tall, if you are using stock shocks, or IS shocks? It would be nice to know the limits, because we are always pushing the limits. Just the nature of human nature.

limiting factor for a larger dia tire is the fender clearance for the shock tower support brace. remove the seat and see the brace I'm mentioning and u can see how the fender provides clearance for it. since the tire tread hits it wear will not be seen and maybe never felt except for major instability.
I am running a 205/65-16. I installed I/S shock at the same time, and initially had them set too soft and this is how I found out about the tire rubbing. I have the shocks set correctly so not until next tire removal will I know if it still hits sometimes.

When my tire rubbed, I lost my tail light and signals. Kind of a subtle clue. Though those wires looked like they'd been loose and a bit droopy well before the rub that broke them. After the fix and shrink-rap and tucked up tight like they should be, no more rub with the same tire. Any time you are in there for a tire or rear service, it's always a good idea to look those wires over carefully (since fixing them with the tire on requires a 2 year old with electrical skills).

thanks for the input. I used the tire calculator on the 205/65 at 26.5" tall. Should have done that in the first place for comparison of the others. The stock 180/60 is 24.5". If you go to a 26.9/27 " that may be all you can go unless you do different shocks. Have to wait on feed back on the comtrec 185/75r 16.

205/65 drops rpms about 200. so at 3k rpms I'm about 65mph.

https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=180-70r16-205-65r16 < Personally, having run an ATT in the past, I wouldn't go taller than the 205/65-16. Especially if loaded up and with a passenger, regardless of rear shocks. I HAVE run a 195/55-16 http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,89686.msg884036.html#msg884036https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=180-70r16-195-55r16and don't recommend that short of a tire unless you have that overwhelming urge to jackrabbit away from stops (like I did). Cause you'll eventually (as I did) realize that leisurely departure only needs second gear to pull out. First will red-line a lot quicker than you realize but boy is it FUN. Don't get me started about burn-outs, power-shift then the front tire lifts during hard 2nd gear acceleration. Good times, but that's hard on the pinion cup especially when your driveshaft to pinion cup seal 91261-ME9-005 is bad (as mine was) and you ride in rain routinely. The kickstand is a factor at that short height sidewall. It gets heavy to lift from the steeper lean angle unless you carry a block (which I did).

Senior moment, confusing it with the Austone....lol Nevertheless, side-stand lean angle is affected. I have the MarkT side-stand and it does compensate appreciably. There were 20k miles or so with shorter air shocks installed to further complicate my recall.

With the Exception of 1 Austone Taxi Tire I've been on 205-65-16 sidewall size since I've gone D/S! And with the Right conditions I have pulled the front end up on a Launch and carried it in 2nd gear a time or 3 or 4 or! The larger somewhat flatter contact patch helps dry or wet! I've ridden The Dragon-US 129-on my D/S choice. And carved some most anywhere I've been. RIDE SAFE.
