Kids here were let out for the entire week for Thanksgiving because of the covid dampanic. They were told virtually learning would begin today, Monday, as kids will not be returning until further notice.
They let out virtual school today at noon because of a forecast of winter weather over night. We might get one inch of snow tonight, so now virtual school is called off for tomorrow.
What would the teachers do if when they started home and all the gas stations and grocery stores, banks, and restaurants etc were closed because everyone stayed home for one inch of "winter weather"? Our school systems are run by a bunch of kids.

That is so WRONG - you don't have to transport students to school, and teachers should be setup to be able to teach from home.

not the case in a lot of schools around me.  The teachers still must go into school to do the virtual learning teaching.  My kid is teaching in college 4th grade in a small school system and they are required during virtual learning to use the school eqmt. to teach virtual online learning.

same goes for my work.  They are too cheap to do the right thing and give me a home laser printer and allow me to take all my banking files and customer files home with me as they should.  Instead,  I am forced into the office forever yet again.   Cry

The kids have been away from school enough, they don't need snow days. The teachers and administrators want paid time off. Everyone else has to get to work, the teachers need to find a way to do their job.

Scottsdale (AZ) schools are closed due to a lack of teachers. Three out of four high schools and two out of four middle schools just closed. It seems they are quitting to avoid the virus.

Baltimore County Schools are closed due to a ransomware attack. Like most school districts, underfunded in IT and IT security. Open servers with inadequate defenses open to the internet.

One more turn should do it!

Here in Kent, Ohio there is a shortage of teachers as well. Primarily substitute teachers which are more important than ever. Full time teachers are getting the virus and no subs can be found. Some teachers are taking a leave of absence to avoid coming into the schools and risking getting the virus. Some have even let this virus make major decisions for them, choosing to resign or retire. Currently the schools here are on a "hybrid" schedule. All kids are at home learning on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursday half the kids are in school, Wednesday/Friday the other half are in school. In a nutshell, kids are in the classroom 2 days a week here. Strange times we are living in.

I lived in Buffalo NY for a few years, they don't close anything for an inch of snow. I drove a Camaro with snow tires, chains if needed and 180 pounds of sand in the trunk. Got good at rally driving.
