We'll miss you  Sad ...

Mike, if I were that fearful of dying of a disease with a 99% survival rate I wouldn't be riding a motorcycle.

I guess I am inconsistent. I take the flu shot because my doctor recommends it for people my age.

When my nephew's non-cussing thoracic surgeon Father-in-law heard my sister
hemming and hawing about the vaccine he told her she was being a dumb ass.
What did your doctor recommend to you about the kung-flu shot?

It's a first for me.  In my defense, I didn't sleep last night, AT ALL.  Probably stressed out about turning 63.

I haven't asked and he hasn't said.  While it is a valid point that the annual flu and COVID-19 tend to kill the same group of people (a group to which I belong) the flu vaccine has been around year after year but the COVID vaccine is brand new.  I'm a little put off by the info that the COVID-19 vaccine makes you sick for awhile.

I do not fear the virus.  I don't want it but I don't fear it.

Welcome to my world . If I didn't have a prescription for 900 mg Gabapentin every night, after I woke up I'd almost never get back to sleep (maybe once or twice every 2 weeks). Ok - maybe not totally  - but I'd often lay awake in bed for 2-5 hours without falling back to sleep most nights.

Not quite right.  The 2 diseases don't tend to kill the same group.  The annual flu does not discriminate by age near as much as C-19.  Annual flu kills across the age spectrum; including a lot of kids and and young adults; not so with C-19 whose death rate positively to correlates increasing age .

The flu vaccine changes every year; it is not the same vaccine year after year.

Perhaps I over-stated feeling like crap.  Most (> 50%) people had mild side effects (not what you would think of as 'sick.'  The most common side effects reported were injection site soreness (ah, duh, it's a shot), fatigue, and aching muscles/joints for a day or two.  Many people experience these with flu shots as well.  Side effects are quite different than adverse reactions.

"A sore arm and feeling crummy for a day or two is a lot better than COVID."
~ Dr. Wm Schaffner, professor, health policy and preventive medicine at Vanderbilt School of Medicine.

Now, let me tell you what I'm excited to see.  The novel coronavirus viral particles are quite similar to those of the common cold.  So, I'm thinking the vaccine could also protect against the common cold.  Hell, if it did, I would take it just for that!!  I hate colds!!  Could we finally have the elusive cure for the common cold?  (This last paragraph is pure speculation on my part; please don't take it for any more than that.)

I was wondering the same thing a while back, and googled up this sad dissapointment:

"Our four standard human coronaviruses cause only 20 percent of colds. The other 80 percent are mostly caused by rhinoviruses, respiratory syncytial virus, parainfluenza virus (not the same as influenza), and other viruses we haven’t even identified yet. They are all so different that each would require a different vaccine. So while we could have made a coronavirus vaccine (which might have had to be four vaccines, one for each strain), the trouble is that it would have helped protect against only 20 percent of the viruses that cause colds."

That's relatively good news.  I'm told the rhinos are nearing extinction.  The sooner we can get those beats off the planet the sooner we reduce our common colds by 80%.   cooldude

I would indeed be very happy to see the RINOs go extinct, they in many ways are more evil then the full blown Democrats! Wink
