The Bloomington Harold Times is publishing the locations of IN gun permits owners. This a outrage.

This was tried several years ago in Ft Wayne by the News Sentinel paper. At first they published the names of politicians and some other higher ups. My father included. When dad called the paper and spoke to a reported he talked to before he was told that they had a new Editor (from Boston) that wanted to do this. The reporter told her it was not a good idea. Not in Indiana. Not long after this a local DJ for a rock station here said on air and I quote. "if the News Sentinel publishes the names of permit owners he will personally broadcast the names, addresses and phone numbers of EVERY employee at the paper." That put a stop to it. Than I heard later she went back to Boston...

There is no reason for people to know this. Read the link below.........

As Paul Harvey said "here is the rest of the story"

The News Sentinel published my name, among others, when this happened.

Shortly after that, I did research and found an ordinance from another state that stopped the practice.
I contacted Dennis Kruse, then and NOW an Indiana state senator.  I emailed him a number of times, and talked to him in person also.  I even sent him a copy of that model ordinance.  Nothing happened.

Now, it seems that this same problem arises again. Once again, I just sent him an email TODAY reminding him of the work that I had done in the past to help him solve this problem.  I would hope that he returns my email.

Maybe a little input from Hoosiers with CCW permits would help.  However, keep in mind that Senator Kruse doesn't seem to have the mindset that our Federal senators have, I think that he'll listen.  It's Senator Dennis Kruse, I don't have his email at hand but 'google' it and it'll bring up his site.

Let's not preach to the choir.

Here's a press release the NRA sent me a link to concerning this. Gotta hand it to the Bloomington HD dealership for publicly standing up to these idiots.

And here a link which will tell Indiana citizens who there state legislators are.

If Wayne could tell us what state's law he was using as a model we could all contact our own state legislators and suggest the same thing.

It would be amusing if it turned out criminals were using this data base to avoid breaking into the homes of gun owners wouldn't it? Grin

It don't really bother me that my name is published. I'm not ashamed and proud to be a gun owner.  cooldude

It's been five years since I tried.  I believe that it was Kentucky but I'm not sure.  It said something to the effect that anyone desiring a list of CCW holders, no problem.  However, each name would be $1.00 and the applicant MUST take the whole list and no publication of the names. I'll try to find that ordinance again.

A general thought.......... Indiana says concealed, that means no one should know that you're carrying, publishing would negate that.  That's sorta like the liquor store owner telling the media  "I keep a 9mm Beretta in a IWB holster, "   Now the crook knows that he's gotta take the owner out before he can use the Beretta.
I'd rather have surprise on my side and not a "Don't mess with me, I gotta gun"  attitude.   Cool

We had some similar shenanigans here in Texas a few years back, so they passed a law that the CCW (CHL here in Texas) information was for law enforcement ONLY...

(The main problem we had here was there was at least one employer that would get the list of CHL holder's regularly, and fire any employees they had that had their license...)

Chances are good that I'm not gonna be home. The only handgun I have is with me at all times. Long guns are locked in a cheap cabinet with one laying around the house for emergency use. I think the assualts are somewhere upstairs in any of the 5 storage/bed rooms. Good luck finding them up there!  Grin Farm is pretty active with family coming in and out.
Good thing about the counrty, we are less likely to be robbed!  Country folk look out for each other. cooldude

It's my right to carry a hand gun, i really don't mind who knows i carry. i have carried for 26 years and don't plan to stop. Even if i didn't have a permit i would still carry, i take one with me where ever i go. Its not going to save your life or your family if you don't have it or if it's not loaded. This is America and we are supposed to be free, I have never had any problems in any state that i have been in, common sense goes a long way.

I think some folks object to the publishing of addresses as opening up the gun owners to potential theft.  I, for one of many, am not ashamed to exercise my constitutional rights to gun ownership.  But I do object to someone publicly noting my possession of items of value to the potential BG.  You can't protect your premises 24/7 to breakin.  The dogs help.

I like the idea of the paper also being asked to publish the names/addresses of it's employees.  After all, it's also public record.
