For supper last evening I apparently ate some prepared food that was bad, although still well within the "use by" date. It was one of those times when the cook(me) was lazy and had a ready made salad of main course proportion. I felt ok most of the evening but by 10:00pm was feeling a bit on the funky side with my belly sounding like a bowling alley. Decided to hit the sack and all was going fairly well through the night....until about 4:15am. I was suddenly awakened by major discomfort in the gut and thought I was going to toss the last few days of food, it was that strong. I hastily rolled out of bed intending to head for the ceramic throne....but you know how you sometimes get lightheaded when you stand up too quick. I remember a crash and a few moments later woke up with my head jammed in between the nightstand and the bed, and everything on the stand was on the floor except for the lamp and my Bible. I slowly pulled my bean out of the stocks it been thrust into and ooohh my...that hurts, I now have a knot on my forehead above the right eye near the outer end of the eyebrow. That sucker is sore as can be. I laid on the floor a couple minutes but again felt the urge to purge so slooowly stood up and made it to the BR. For a moment I felt like it was the Naval Flu...clean sweep fore and aft. But amazingly once done, I now feel fine with the exception of a nasty bump on the head and a slightly wrenched spine up between the shoulder blades. Think I'll take it easy today, maybe two naps instead of the occasional one in the afternoon. Later on the phone talking to my daughter, she informed me that she never buys ready made salads due to some of the preservatives used to keep them fresh longer. And also told me what I experienced was exactly the same thing she and her sister have if they eat one of those salads. Guess I'll start making my own, sure don't need another knot on the head. Before she said goodbye, my rotten daughter asked if the bump helped...giggling as she asked. I'm certain she got that personality quirk from her mother!

A few years ago a friend, BIG GUY, woke up and stood up form his bed before fully awake.
Rolled his ankle and broke it. Had to have a plate put in.
Since then I've paused for a coupla/few seconds before rising from the seated position at the edge of the bed.
ALTHOUGH that would be hard to do if the purge was close by.

Well can’t say I haven’t had my fair share of “special” moments but not experienced the dizzy getting out of bed phenomenon yet. I’ll have to remember. As none of us are getting any younger are we

Well, I'm glad it's just a bump on the head. I'd hate to think you're going to have to start going to bed wearing a helmet. Rams

I know the feeling. My Blood pressure is 80/60 and if I stand up quickly from bending over or lying down I can light headed and almost pass out. Its called Vasodepressor syncope and can be complicated by low blood pressure

John,
I've had some experience with grossly elevated poopersity levels myself, and with an unexpected fall or two, as well... Fortunately for me, though, not at the same time! I shudder to think about all the ramifications of such, and I'm happy for you things worked out as well as they did! I didn't used to have those issues back in the day, so I'm leaning towards agreeing with Jeff on this one... Glad you're on your way back to normalness...

Mine doesn't normally get that low but I have seen 98-100/45-50 and still show 95% O2 plus on the oximeter. At the gym I usually warm up on the stationary bike for a minimum of 10 min. and have to pump my butt off to get my pulse out of the 70's. When I was running all the time years ago I'd go at least two miles before I started to sweat. Drove my wife nuts, she would often ride a bike alongside and after just 3-4 blocks she's sweating like a hooker in a tent revival. So I seem back to normal now except for the knot on the noggin and I'm a bit stiff and sore. Jim C, hope it's a long time before that scenario. Reminds me of the old joke about three guys talking about how their bodily functions are getting out of hand as they age. One guy said he gets so constipated all the time he can't have a BM until late in the day at the earliest but has no trouble emptying his bladder. Second guy said he doesn't have the BM problem but can't pee until midday. The third guy said I have you both beat. I usually have a BM no later than 6:00am and pee around 7:00am. The other guys say that's wonderful, how do you do that. Third guy says it's not all that great, I usually don't wake up until around 8:00am.

I rarely get dizzy to the point of a fall. But what I worry about from a fall is not my old, scarred, beat up, hard head, I worry about the quarter million dollars of dental work I could screw up. And I'd probably rather just pass on than have to sit in that chair for all the necessary repair work (let alone the cost). That's just another reason I go armed. I cannot afford to get my dental work punched, and cannot stand to get it fixed. The cost of couple rounds of ammo is so much more reasonable (and the ringing ears goes away the next day).

I might have exaggerated. And all the Air Force stuff was free (while it lasted). My little dental policy covers just about as much as the annual premium costs, if I game the system just right. Then, it's on me.

Chris, I have a naturally low and slow BP and pulse, the pulse while sleeping is often in the mid to low 30's I've been told by nursing staff. BP is usually in the mid teems over 60....112-115/55-60, which also drops some while sleeping. When I was awakened by the feeling I was going to lose everything since Thanksgiving...last year...I rolled out of bed and stood up. Then apparently down, judging by the black & blue knot on my forehead. I'm sure age has nothing to do with it! agree, age sometimes has nothing to do with it. Glad you are o.k. I was age 26 or so full of _iss and vinegar in pretty good shape back then. I got up in the middle of the night and went to pee doing my thing and next thing I know I was passed out in the tub apparently making gurgling noises hearing my wife yell at me waking me up thinking I died since I also broke the heavy duty bar built into the one piece tub surround with my head having a HUGE bump on top of my head. One other time heading to bathroom in my 20's also at night, I passed out in the hallway after done peeing and next thing I know both me and my wife wake up next to each other in the hallway, she heard me fall apparently and also passed out. WE both woke up at the same time OUT COLD all clamy and sweaty all over asking each other what the heck happened. We both sat there for 30 minutes or so just sitting there collecting our bearings, was a weird and yet scary moment for sure, both of us had a good laugh at what just happened to us. Now, the past 10+ years, I rarely EVER get out of bed ASAP and sit alongside the bed for at least 10-20 seconds to get my bearings before even getting up out of bed. My wife has for a very long time gets very dizzy standing up if she is in the garden on knees or bending over for a long time pulling weeds, etc. She has passed out falling backwards a few times as well doing that or sometimes I catch her falling backwards nearly passing out so she does not fall down after standing straight up again. I think low blood pressure might have something to do with it? Dr. told me after peeing or during peeing for some people lowers blood pressure considerably all of a sudden. Usually I have to pee like a race horse in the middle of the night which may also be an issue. I have not fell much lately but I also use to drink a TON MORE alcohol late at night back then as well thus having to go pee a lot more than normal in the middle of the night.
