I ate one of those things once. Yuk!  When I get the urge for a snack  of that nature I grab beef jerky. May not be any better fir me but tastes much better.

Now I’m glad I steer clear especially if them slimy sticks cause C19

I threw that comment in there as an aside, but you picked up on it as an ex-processor of parts and pieces.
What grabbed me about this man's biography was that he survived a horrendous battle wound in defense of liberty, recuperated, pursued/completed an education, worked for the same company for close to 25 years (Director of Meat Technology...some title!) and a contributory life for his family.  Exemplary as was many of that generation of men and women.

Slim Jims?  Salt bombs with a hint of chewy spiciness and a Coke on a 90* day hit the spot around 3 PM as a kid.  Years later, at 2 AM with one too many beers on board and no such thing as a convenience store in 1966 open at that hour, there may have been a petrified one to be found that slid under the seat of a 1953 Chevy.

Correct you are.  Didn't truly want to know what the package ingredients listed. coolsmiley

Addendum: I did click on the "meticulous mix" link...scary stuff...I don't believe I'll ever indulge another. Tongue

I especially liked the parts about his war experiences.  cooldude I think my brother survived on Slim Jim's and Diet Coke the entire year of '75.  Smiley

As a young man I once worked in a meat processing plant where they made hot dogs, sausage, etc. As the old saying goes, "sausages and laws, if you knew what went into them you'd have nothing to do with either." Our shift boss was an old German guy I swear was an SS guy hiding out from the law. I think he slept at attention. When on break, he'd sit in the cooler with some awful smelling drink and eat blood cheese for a snack. His breath could melt wallpaper paste at 20 paces.

I once applied for a local job 6 miles away at Jack Links beef jerky plant and after seeing the area and the SMELL,  no matter what I would NEVER have taken the office job.  NO way could I stomach the smell of the plant and never get used to it.

RIP am sure he will be joining in heaven Randy MACHO MAN Savage, WWF wrestler who did commercials for slim jims.

I think it would have been TaB in '75.  That stuff was terrible.  I don't think Diet Coke came out until the early '80s.

Tab.... what a blast from the past.

My mom chased low cal stuff all her life.

When we kids were all still home, she discovered she could keep Tab in the fridge, and none of us kids would ever touch it (after that first time).  Spitting it in the sink.....   Grin

And I think Diet Coke is actually worse.  Spitting it on the floor.

There are such things that taste so awful, it's just better doing without entirely than drinking the no/low cal or low sugar, or artificial sweetener.  Gag me with a spoon.

I keep some sugary Coke and Iced tea around for occasional use (like with pizza), but water, 2% milk, and sweet coffee are my go to liquids.

Diet Pepsi isn't too bad compared to the real thing - it's been years since I touched the real thing. But I can't stand Coke products - too much acid in them for my taste.
