Hello everyone, I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.  I was wondering if anyone has installed a modified final drive from Henry?  it for the GL1800 from 2002 to 2017, It lowers the RPM is every gear.  The Goldwing forum has had many people switch and everyone has had positive reviews.  I emailed Henry and asked if his final drive would fit a 2014 Valkyrie and he said it would.  here is the link henrysfinaldrive.com
On the Goldwing OEM Drive readings.
70MPH - 3100RPM
80MPH - 3600RPM
90MPH - 4000RPM

After the installed the modified drive one of the things that was discovered is Speedo was now 13MPH lower than with the OEM Drive!  (GPS verified)  re-calibrated speedo and run after test.
Modified Drive readings.
70MPH - 2600RPM
80MPH - 2900RPM
90MOH - 3300RPM

According to the GL riders the motor still has a lot of torque.

There are two styles from what I remember and the difference is in the drive shaft design and length, which can be changed but just not be a bolt on.

I have a Goldwing final drive as an extra in case mine ever fails so I know it would fit but the final ratios although at cruising would be good in first and second gear pickup would be slower.

Like the difference between 3,08 gears and 4,11's but if you could take it may be good.

Somehow this never really bothered me though.

Between the price of gas so low and the engines last forever in their current configuration, I would have to test drive one and see the savings in gas to decide if it was worth it.

In some cases the lowering of the rpm may actually increase gas consumption since the engine will have to work harder in order to compensate for a strong headwind or a constant climb as an example.

The Goldwing engine has a differently designed fuel system than our bikes and therefore you may not see any fuel savings also. This may be why they seem to get better fuel mileage than our bikes even being heavier and possible more drag.

Robert, I see what you are saying, I know nothing about the Goldwings, I was just wondering if someone that knows more about these engines have done this to there Valkyrie.  On Henry’s web page he has a video that shows the a bike on a dyno and he has a top speed of 177 mph at 6400 RPM’s I think, I know that our bikes have a speed limiter and I was just wondering if this would work on our bikes, but as you have stated the motor is pretty much bullet proof and I don’t have the guts to get this drive and be the first to put it on the Valkyrie....

I am about to send him a deposit for one.  I am sure it will help out with the gas mileage, but that is not the only deal.  I am all for cutting down the rpms on any bike on the highway.

There was a company that offered a gear set for the 1500 that lowered the final gear ratio. The conclusion was it was not worth it.

I was working with BigBF when he did Mario's Overdrive gear kit for the 1500.  BigBF was going to do mine after his, but it was a total bust.

I had forgotten you did that with BF, Funny, thanks for bringing that up. At that time I had thought about doing it and had heard that it was not worth it, when I read what you guys decided, it was the final nail in the coffin for doing it.

The Goldwings and the Valks both in the 1500 and 1800 have in some cases over 200k on the bikes without special gears or any major engine work. I would really like to know the fuel savings if any so as to really make a true judgement on the cost/benefit ratio. I doubt it will work out but would be nice to know.

Just for info on an old thread, I just had my initial ride of 50 +/- miles with my Henry’s  final drive on my 08 Wing. Very impressive. I’m going to love this in the twisties and the Interstate.
