Yes, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah to All.

I tend to be a little more old school in Christmas music; this is by far my favorite;

Merry Christmas!

We are playing Christmas music this morning as well, Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, and Perry Como, just to name a few.

Mostly what my mom and dad played every Christmas.  I have his music and its now stored on my NAS so I can play it whenever I want.

Merry Christmas to all my Valkyrie riding brothers (and sisters)! And to all those who ride other bikes as well Smiley

Trying to talk my honey into taking a ride today.

Merry Christmas to everyone! Been out spreading some Xmas cheer all week!

Weather has been outstanding here in NW Iowa. Been Santa Clausin' all week. Great weather lined up this week too.

Got the mp3 player hooked up blaring out  classic Christmas tunes on the bike.

It's a blast! I wave at everyone and everyone waves back. Lots of giggles and smiles.

Oh what fun it is to ride a 100 horsepower sleigh!

Interesting story. For me anyway. A bit long but gotta write it. And it is Valkyrie and Christmas related.

So yesterday, this would be Dec. 7th, I head over to the town of LeMars, Iowa in full Santa gear.
It is a 34 mile ride to get there.

For a few days prior I've had this weird feeling that I am supposed to go there.
I've been waiting for the weather to be pretty much perfect for this as riding in the Santa suit on the highway creates some issues if the weather is even slightly windy.

But the wind was mild and right out of the west so no side wind. Santa likes that.

So on to LeMars I go.

I make the circuit of a couple towns along the way as a break from the highway and re-secure my garb.

I get on the final leg to make LeMars. A few miles out, I notice a white pickup behind me. He closes but stays a respectful distance all the way into LeMars. Kind of stood out as he never passed me. Not sure why I noticed this. As I get into town we go our separate ways.

Anyway, I get to LeMars and make the circuit through the town. About 4 times. Go through the parking lots of Wally world and the local grocery stores and a number of times through the downtown area.

Everyone is having a great time. Horns honking, pictures taken, a 4 year old in the Wally world parking lot, obviously giving his mom fits, turned around as I was slowly going by and his look was stunned awesomeness. Kid will believe in Santa till the day he dies. His eyes got so big… Gawd it was funny!

So I'm about to wrap it up and decide to make one more pass through the parking lot of one of the grocery stores. (The company I work for actually).

To get there I took a route that I hadn't been on yet. Got to a 4 way stop, turned right and a couple houses down is a house with outdoor inflatable Christmas displays.

One was a really large bi-plane with Snoopy. I mean really large.
Guess what the other one was? C'mon guess!

A huge inflatable SANTA ON A MOTORCYCLE!

Santa had to stop. It was a sign. Had to be. Had this odd feeling of someone telling me to turn around and go there.
So I turn around and pull into the drive and ring the door bell.
A nice older gal, mid 70’s, comes out and I tell her (I'm in full Santa gear throughout all this) that her display is "Santa approved!"

I point to my bike and she thinks it is all pretty neat that Santa on a motorcycle stops. She tells me her and her husband used to have a Gold Wing but now they have a Can Am. “Would you like to see it?” she asked.
Of course!  So into the garage we went. Biggest CanAm I’ve ever seen. Loaded.
We talk about places we’ve been, and they’ve been all over, over the years.

She then asks if I knew her son Ed Anderson. I didn’t.
She tells me that he died in a plane accident a few years back. He was the pilot and as she told me about it. I did vaguely recall the incident.

She then tells me that Ed built motorcycles too. In fact, one of his bikes was on the cover of Popular Mechanics. Nov. 1998.

The inflatable Christmas decorations out front, the plane and motorcycle were their memorial to the memory of their son who was a pilot and motorcycle enthusiast.

It was a delightful conversation even when it got a bit deep at times.

It gets cold this time of year when the sun goes down and I told her that I’d better be hitting the road to get home before it got dark. So we headed out to the driveway and she came over to check out the Valk.

About ready to leave when her husband shows up.
He’s driving a white pickup. I recognize the pickup.
He gets out and says, “I was following you into town!”

Sometimes you just chalk things up to coincidence.
Sometimes you can’t.  Pretty sure there was somebody calling the shots here and it wasn’t me.
I mean really, what are the odds that I would notice a pickup truck behind me and wind up at his house an hour and a half later?

We make some more small talk, recap some of the conversation for her husband. I get an invitation to visit again, which I hope to do this next riding season, and we say our good byes and I hit the road.

Very interesting ride that day.

Merry Christmas!

Good story.

The motorcycling community is still a rather small community.  Seems big at times, but it really is a small bunch of us.
