Back in the 90's I was really into astrophotography.  I had a 10" f/5.6 Newtonia telescope which I made including grinding the primary mirror.  I would put the scope in the back of my pickup and head out to the local clubs Star Parties.

I just had some of the better images digitized from the slides.  Here are some examples.

The Moon is prime focus with a 35mm camera.  Saturn is eyepiece projection.  M-51 and M-57 are prime focus using a Cookbook CCD Camera that some of us made from kit parts in the late 90's.

Saturn

Total Eclipsed Moon

M-51 The Whirlpool Galaxy - (Same one you saw in the Big Bang Theory on the wall in their apartment). This was taken with the Cookbook CCD - 245 camera.

M-57 The Ring Nebula - so named for obvious reasons and the result of a supernova.  Also taken wiht the Cookbook CCD 245 camera.

Whoa ! That's badass ! I think I spent a week or better getting my grandson's telescope setup for the last comet. (I think it was called Neo) I'd love to see stuff like that. I fear it would take me a month. Thanks for posting those.  cooldude

That was way cool

I remember as a kid my friend's older brother setting up his telescope on the roof (7th floor) back in the Bronx and watching Saturn.  Think he didnt have as good of a scope as you though

Fascinating stuff

Somewhere I have a blown up picture taken of Haley's comet, must have been around 30 yrs. ago. Just used an old SLR camera with a telescopic lens. Came out surprisingly clear. I think I still have the camera, had two of them...one for parts but never stripped it. Have no idea if they still work. Your shots are quite remarkable, very clear.

Fascinating stuff

I second that.  I've always been awestruck by the final frontier.
