We rolled out this morning with temps in the mid 20's and clear sky over-head. Hooked up with my ridin' buddy Paul and headed toward US 129 The Dragon.

When we rolled into the over-look a dude from Canada was out just diggin' the view.

This guy was out touring America on backroads and had scored a couple bike's along the way . A 1959 non-running Ducati he bought in Wisconsin and claim's he got on the internet and found a Ducati restorer ( mechanic ) in Ohio and took the motor off at his house for him to rebuilt. He also had a 1947 Sparta ( I did a google hoping to find a picture ) but no luck.

We made our way on into Robbinsville , North Carolina for lunch and stopped at The Fugitive Dam for a couple shots. The real name for this dam is Cheoah Dam but after the movie The Fugitive when Harrison Ford jumped off it everyone started callin' it The Fugitive Dam ( and yes I know Harrison Ford did'nt really jump off it ...but his double did...watch the flick   Wink

The river that runs beside US 129 between Deals Gap and Robbinsville was rockin' today I don't think I've ever seen it that high it was in the trees and damn near in the road. All along the way every ridge gorge had a waterfall pouring out of it. This is my favorite picture of the day I've had this bike 12 years this coming june and I still love it nothing out there on todays market as far as cruiser would ever make me want to sell it. It runs just as good today maybe even better as it did in 1998 when I got it.I ride it like I stole it and it always brings me home.

I've had that '47 Sparta on my mind ever since the guy did'nt offer to un-cover it when I took the pictures. I've been surfin' the net for a picture but not finding any of this model  Undecided  . I did find this information....

Brief History of the Marque: Sparta
Established as a bicycle factory named Verbeek & Schakel in 1917, the company very soon changed its name to Sparta and produced their first autocycles of 74cc and 98c in 1931 using Sachs engines. During the 1930s they built numerous motorcycles using Villiers engines of 148cc and 200cc, many of which were delivery vehicles for bakers, milkmen and the like, and JLO powered machines were added to the range towards the end of the thirties.

Subsequent to WWII 250cc Victoria power units saw service in Sparta motorcycles, and a rather nice 98cc Villiers powered scooter was built between 1953 and 1957. Production of motorcycles ceased in 1965 and that of mopeds in the early 1980s, but the company continues to build bicycles including electric powered bikes.

This link has a few pictures but none with the rear fender like the one yesterday.   http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e7/Sparta4.jpg/120px-Sparta4.jpg&imgrefurl=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparta_Motorcycles&h=104&w=120&sz=7&tbnid=G0ZwN5hZqOxaxM:&tbnh=76&tbnw=88&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpicture%2Bof%2Bsparta%2Bmotorcycle&hl=en&usg=__NXtmo3N7Ch5Ua4XWsrrS8skSJwQ=&ei=YV03S7SfDM2UtgfSsPiKCQ&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=2&ct=image&ved=0CBAQ9QEwAQ
