According to the dealer, a new KIA K5 can’t be bought for MSRP.

Had great experiences with Truecar in the past so tried again.  Local dealer gave me a deal which included $1,200 off of MSRP.  Scrolled down to see the usual $75 document fee BUT there was another fee for “GPS” of $1,700 which puts the price at $500 over MSRP.

Called the dealer, the GPS fee is a charge for the GPS/Infotainment system to be installed and for the dealer documentation yadda yadda yadda.  I asked is this how’s all KIAs are sold.  He said only certain models.

I sold cars in the 90’s, and have bought 8 new cars so far and have never heard of such selling practices.  Guess the kid isn’t getting a new KIA.

I call BS on that GPS to install 1700?  should be included and if not then why need it in the first place leave it off?  Last year we got a great deal on a new 2019 hyundai tucson sport AWD msrp 32.3K out the door price for 23.2K over 9K off msrp.  I wanted wife to save 1500 more bucks off and get the SE trim level but was a no go on that.    One thing can be said about Hyundai is they are one  of just a few mfgs. to include in mid-level trims, even a lot of base trims,  dual cloth heated seats in the front.

The LED lights all around are awesome bright at night truly amazing and that was also in the sport trim not the SE trim level.

Find a Hyundai that they like and buy it.

They're the same company and the Hyundai are much cheaper.

ONLY hyundai/kia that I know of going for full MSRP or close to it are the new Palisade and Telluride.  I'd save easily 8K and get the KIA sorento same 3.3L V6 7 passenger for darn near the same thing and not like most use the 7 passenger seating much anyways for rear seat legroom a tad bit more in Palisade/Telluride.   Bought Hyundai santa fe back in 2011 and have not bought another brand SUV since been good.  I priced a new 2020 KIA sorento SUV out 6 months ago for my mother in law and found a nice one fairly loaded 3.3L V6 7 passenger for under 30K out the door pricing.  Yah,  a 2.4L 4 cylinder say in santa fe 5 seater (same thing) can be had for 27K out the door pricing, but underpowered, and the 290hp 3.3L V6 only in KIA sorento now gets on hwy. same mpg as the 4 banger.  I know, I own both engines in 2 Hyundai SUV's.   I do prefer though the Hyundai interior/exterior design over KIA though.

yah,  save well over a few grand and get a new Hyundai sonata 2.5L 4 cylinder good car on par with toyota camry and honda accord.   Pretty much same interior specs and just as techy or good enough for most folks.    We still have our 2014 hyundai sonata 2.4L 80K near trouble free miles and overall a good car for price paid 17.7K out the door pricing mrsp was near 23K.   Only 1 recall which hyundai dealer messed it up of course and front rotors/brake pads all around is all so far and 1 set of new tires.
