Three wheels with one in the back are good, but my experience with 3 wheel ATVs with one in the front were that I ran over my foot and leg several times, and had to stop riding the dang things before I killed myself.

While living in Pismo Beach I was friends with several firefighters, at least once a week during season a tourist would literally break their neck riding in the sand dunes.
If the front tire digs in you're going over the handlebars likely with the machine on top of you. I could never understand how people would speed over the tops of Dunes when they didn't know what was on the other side.
