Saudi Arabia. Sand and rock. Without oil the place would be just...well...sand and rock...worthless except to the bedouin...and desert racers.

No so much any more. How you liking the Dakar so far ? I'm pulling for the privateer Skyler Howes from up the road in St. George. From a different post. Honda is gaining bigtime At present after 9 stages, Honda is 4 out of the top 5 and Brabec, in forth, is just 3 mins down from Sunderland to make it a Honda podium. Anything can happen and sorry to see Toby Price crash out. The Australian is an awesome rider and I'd would have been happy to see him get his second Dakar. Skyler Howes is the best "Privateer" out there. I wish him luck. Patrick, what does your nephew do with Husky? What ever it is, I'm jealous.

He started as rider with Kawasaki then because of too many broken bones a mechanic. Then he went to KTM as a crew chief. Husky offered him more money and he went from mechanic to crew chief and now was recently 'promoted' as race teams manager.
They don't seem to be doing very well this year in the Dakar and I don't know why. Some of the rules/restrictions I think should be reviewed such as having to stop to manually move obstacles [ apparently to reduce speeds] and having speed limits.
He is making some really good money but he is never home. He does get to take the family with him many times though. The kids are top racers in Ca.

So, I'm almost 3 days behind. I hope they change the venue next year. I thought South America was a lot better terrain.

Bikes won by an Argentinian (Kevin Benavides) on a Honda, as well as second by Ricky Brabec for a 1-2 Honda finish. Good coverage of the whole rally by NBCSP network for this past week. Two bad crashes of motorcycles which led to two riders being transported via choppers to hospitals; one involved a severe enough injury to necessitate the rider being put into a medically induced coma to help manage his injuries. One fellow is now 55 y. and has been racing this for the past 30 years and has won both motorcycles (6) and cars (7) classes; a truly remarkable record for winning in any country he drives. Peterhansel is his last name (French). What a race, choose any category of vehicle and there is great driving and strategy being played out.

Had this set to record, but missed much of it. Seems Brabec was way behind last year also, with a remarkable comeback. Maybe do it again? Please, don't spoil it for me, I'm going to look for more coverage on the you tube
