I stumbled on 9MM ammo at Cabela's yesterday. We also bought a book. The total seemed high by mental math. I got home and looked at the receipt and saw the ammo tax plus Cook County (IL) share.
It put the final cost at $.35 which is not bad considering the last ammo I bought was $.70 . We searched for ammo and this was the best price we could find at the time. Every time I got a sale alert , it was gone before an order could be placed.
If you are looking , try Cabela's on Sunday when they open. 5 box limit. Cook county tax sucks.

The scarcity and high price (if you can find any) is bad enough without that tax.    Embarrassed

At some point, high (ammo, gun, reloading component) tax becomes a direct infringement prohibited by the 2d Amendment.

I heard people in Church on Sunday talking about the price
of 9mm... I thought I heard that a box was nearly $50...

Been wanting a 57, but ammo always was scarce, now it's showing up for buck quarter - buck fiddy.

Before I took off north fer the Holidays my gun shop(s) were anywhere from a month to 6 months out gittin resupplied. Magazines and parts were mostly on the unobtanium list. And new weapons when they could be found or good used weapons when they could be found-Pricy unobtanium. His main reloader guy is having his own supply problems. As a guess here  Roll Eyes b & h scaring the crap outa some Patriots? RIDE SAFE.

This is both unfortunate and soon will be deliberate if Pres Harris has her way.  I wish I had stocked up more before but who could anticipate the ammo/gun run from BLM and Antifa rioting not to mention the pandemic.  Now we have scads of inept / unpracticed new shooters.  I've seen women open carrying at the grocery stores - no doubt they are brand new; generally experienced 2A folks learn asking for the attention from OC becomes unwanted.  Not to mention the tactical disadvantage if it actually is needed. I suspect at first some may like the new empowerment, particularly if they previously felt disenfranchised - or they haven't acquired the CCW permit yet.  Hopefully they will stop voting for socialism and gun confiscation now.  As for me, it's time to preserve what resources I already have.  Meaning I maintain my gun club membership but rarely go practice.  Fortunately my carries are all laser aimed (in addition to the irons) and I have accumulated handling/shooting practice before.  And some are revolvers - more reliable; no need to practice clearing feed failures.  I wish I had a couple autoloaders with reflex sights and appropriate hybrid IWB holsters but I put that off and now is not the time. Also the more I can avoid NICS tracking the better now - Could get that at a gunshow or otherwise not from a FFL now - which may not be available soon either.  Yep there are several calibers I need more ammo, specifically for practice.  If the left gets their way online sourcing may be killed.

remember folks it was obama an UN globalist operative that started the shortage and high prices.  This also includes the rise in vehicle battery prices which started when he was in office.

Dan , out of state shopping is stopped with an Illinois mailing address. I have a Wisconsin relative we deal thru. The last alert I received for ammo was OK until shipping was added. Free shipping is good if you can be high enough on the list to even get the ammo.
