I apologize for my friend calling someone an asshole.

We Rogue Riders consider that a term of endearment.

True, but his friend used a modifier referring to unwanted copulation.  That pretty well diminishes the quality of endearment.   Smiley

Maybe I'm just being naive or sentimental but this is not the VRCC I remember from the early 2000s. This isn't even recognizable. We had our own cast of characters back then for sure (I was one of them). But nothing like the absolute garbage I've seen over the past couple of weeks since I decided to pop in and check things out.

I guess the Tech Boards are the only message boards of any real value these days. All I see in General is a circle-jerk of BS between the same 5-6 people. I wonder how many people have been turned off to this site due the type of behavior I'm seeing here. I guess the argument would be "but my free speech!"

I guess an individual's free speech "trumps" any attempt at maintaining this community.

With all due respect, why can people not just ignore the posts that they don't like?  There are plenty of ride posts, and personal posts by members to read.  They don't generate the page upon page of discussion like the political posts, because it is hard for such topics to be controversial.  No you shouldn't have taken that route, or you shouldn't eat at that restaurant, or your bike is ugly and you ride it like a girl.

I grow weary of the constant bickering at times, but it is a general board.  I suppose some people are just more sensitive than others.  I personally enjoy this site tremendously and visit it several times a day.  I have no one on my ignore list, but there are a few candidates.  I do sympathize with the moderators and their thankless job.  We should do all we can to make their job easier.

I hope I'm not candidate #1  Smiley

No, you are way down on that list.  Maybe honorable mention at best.

Well said Skinhead, to pretend that our motorcycle board is any different than any political discussion board on the planet just doesn't make sense. People who come here are generally those who ride motorcycles I would assume, they're not sensitive little snowflakes and easily offended by anything and everything.

Actually this is what democracy looks like, at times it's very messy and ugly, but what is the alternative? Every time I come on this board I find something that makes me feel something.. Sometimes I read things and get mad, sometimes I read things and laugh.. Through it all we get to know each other better as well as sharing opinions, Life Experiences and sometimes just plain silly crap.

This is an open discussion section of the board and those easily offended have the choice to not look at it. Sometimes our political post headings can be misleading, but all it takes is a second or two of reading to know that it may not be something that you wish to look at, so you hit the back button.

This time in our history is unprecedented and emotions are running High, it's natural that the dominant theme of our discussion board is now politics.

So far I have nobody on my ignore list either, and I'm not easily offended.. People who are easily offended should probably not be on a motorcycle riders board, after all motorcycle riding attracts a certain type of individual. The dominant characteristic I believe is that we are freedom-loving free thinkers and calculated Risk Takers.

We aren't snowflakes here, just a group of people with many things in common and some things not so much. Overall I like it here and enjoy participating on this board.

I fear the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia are clouding your memory. The early 2000's were even worse, to the point I spent the better part of a decade not involved in the VRCC because I felt it might as well be the Very Republican Christian Club.

Yeah maybe that is true. Maybe I just did a better job of tuning some of it out. I've been known to have a selective memory.

I agree with you & I don't think your memory fails you.  While I've never posted much I have been a lurker off and on and I recall back in the early to mid 2000's a large percentage of posts were about upcoming rides, past ride's, meet up's, short rides, ride reports, suggested rides etc... and a lot of whooping it up especially from a bunch from Louisiana, but there were folks posting bike/ride related content from all across the globe.  I don't see those folks on anymore seems they've moved along.  I cant remember all their handles but Hard6, Stryder, Byrd?, are some I recall and I always enjoyed their conversations and warmth & humor they brought to the forum.

From a forum admin perspective I understand the need to maintain active participation, unique hits & visits to promote their advertisers.  And that may necessitate allowing a forum to be flexible and go in different directions.  For me when I visit the forum I scan what I want to read then move on.  I can say I move on more quickly than I had in the past as there was more bike / ride related content I was interested in back then and I'm not interested in getting into political discussions or debates.

For perspective, today my view shows 40 threads total on the 1st page of the General section.  And here I've sorted the threads by Topic.  So about 18% of the content on the main page of the general section is what interests me.

Sticky                        8 or 20%
Political or Virus      18 or 45%
Motorcycle or Valk    7 or 18%
Other                        7 or 18%

I don't want to get into a Facebook debate but the conversation over on the Facebook VRCC group is amazing. Lots of bike talk, people taking rides, people asking for help. It has been a joy and everyone seems very nice.

I don't think I'm disheartened with the VRCC at all. I think I'll just use this site as the great reference that it is. The Tech Boards and the content in them are great.

The causal conversation is just better left to FB, at least for me.

I just saw this on Parler.  It is a video showing people entering a building (assuming its congress) and the police just letting them in.  The police show up at the 20 second point on the video.

The truth will eventually come out on what happened in DC.. As it always does.

Of course, the deniers club here will do what they do.

No, me either. I can't imagine it will take long. He blends in almost as well as our friend Serk.  Smiley
