Good Morning Campers! Just got registered and starting to look for a campsite. Has anyone started researching the Athens area? Please share any info you find and I'll do the same. This is gonna be GREAT!

I'm looking to camp also. I have a 30 ft. toy hauler and would like to know what campground everyone is thinking about staying at? I'm coming from Pittsburgh and that's about a 4 hour drive. Let's see if we can all pick a the same campground.

Lake Snowden is the one we checked out. It's about 8 minutes from the hotel. If you guys post your space numbers when you reserve, you can kind of stay in a group.

I just got off the phone with the University that owns the Lake Snowden Campground. I left a message and the lady called me back almost immediately! While the University owns the campground, they don't directly administer it. She told me there is no one in the camp office until March the first. I was asked to call back at that time. The number she gave me for the campsite directly is: (740) 698-6373. That number is listed on the website but goes now to a mailbox that is full. It appears there is no way to make reservations prior to that date. (YES, I PUT THAT DATE IN MY CALENDAR! She also told me the Hill Top Loop in the campground is the one with more power and water connections than other loops, but that it also has the highest percentage of "seasonal" campers. I asked what that meant and found that to be their definition of long term site holders (I would guess it to be analogous to season ticket holders at sporting events). Anyway, that's all I know at the present. I'm still investigating the area, but "the pickin's is looking a bit slim". This is probably a good place from what I can see, but their organizational skills appear to be lacking. I suspect that is due to them being a University and not a professional campsite management organization. It's still gonna be GREAT!

I called Lake Snowden numerous times today to reserve a campsite and it appears that the voice-mailbox is still full. (No answer) I checked out the campground on Facebook and from what I gather on that page is that they will be open on March 4th. If someone gets through to them before March 4th, please let the rest of us campers know.

Well, the March 1 target for Lake Snowden was obviously a bit optimistic on their part! Numerous attempts at contact finally resulted in speech with a human. Said contact; however, resulted in yet another mailbox. (This one at least did not claim to be full.) We will attempt yet another contact on the suggested 4 March date. We have been referred to their (greatly lacking) website for "more information". More to follow...

So I ended up sending Lake Snowden an email asking when would be a good time to call for reservations and this is the reply I received from them this morning; “ Hi Jake, Thanks for your inquiry. We are in the final stage of implementing an online reservation system that should go live very soon. Please check back around 3/15-4/1/21 with final details. Have a great day.”
Just passing some information on but I’ll be checking the website daily. I figure there will be a bunch of us camping so hopefully there will be enough room for all of us.

Good morning, Campers. A little more info, but not much help. I managed to speak to a human, who gave me the phone number for Debbie Arnold, who actually returned my call. She said the reservation website is still under construction, and should be operational by April 1. But I like Jake's approach ... Check the website daily. Once it's working, spread the word!

Well, I just called Lake Snowden... AGAIN, and it appears the message has changed a bit. Now they say they are not accepting any phone reservations because the under-construction website will take on that task. The new planned activation for that site is 15 APRIL 2021. This information came in the form of a recording on the Lake Snowden campsite number. (1-740-698-6373) We'll keep after them until we get some definitive answers. Anyone gaining any information on this or other options, please post!

Success at Lake Snowden! You can call NOW and make reservations. We just got ours for site 35 in the Locust Grove area. That is where the 50 amp service is located. Their number is: 740 698-6373.

We will be camping at Carthage Gap RV Park. They have full hookup for $35.00 per night. If anyone is interested she said she would put Inzane campers together if you make reservations within the next couple of weeks. Phone number is 740-667-3072.

In light of the information Mac supplied, and after talking to the nice folks at Carthage Gap RV Park, we have decided to stay there instead of Lake Snowden. The price is the same for 30 Amp (50 Amp is $5 more); however, that price includes WiFi, water, and sewer at each site, unlike Lake Snowden which has a single dump station and no water or sewer at individual sites. The lady also said we could park our motors under the pavilion rather than out in the weather if we desired. She will try to get us all parked in the same area if we all call sooner rather than later. They do NOT take credit cards for reservations but will accept a check and will email back your reservation confirmation. From what I can tell from the satellite view, these are concrete pads and looks like a much nicer camp. It is DEFINATELY more professionally run than Lake Snowden. Lake Snowden appears to be an offshoot of the college and not something that receives the attention that a "real" business applies to the job. Thank you CrazyHorse for the research and information!

I just registered at Carthage Gap Campground. I will be arriving on Monday and I will be pulling my 30' toy hauler trailer. Looking forward to meeting everyone. I'm coming by myself, girlfriend has to work. My last InZane was in 2004 in Paducah, Ky.

We'll be arriving on Sunday and will look for you! We have a Newmar Toy Hauler pulling a Saturn VUE. We won't know the campsite until we get there.

When I spoke to the campground they said all of us are to be in the new section and in the center circle pull thru sites. We can also park our bikes under the pavilion.

Some hail we saw on the way home. Minor damage to the RV and Toad, but it could have been fo far worse if we hadn't just stopped for the night!
