While I do find that interesting, who's the source?   Is that factual?

This is a thing. I have mine turned off, but I'm not naive enough to believe that they aren't still watching. Because they can, they do. They just want you to believe that you can be in control of it.

For those of us without it, how about letting us in on what you're talking about.

Don't all your cellphones track you everywhere?   Even turned off?   Faraday cages?

Disabled my Facebook account last Tuesday, figured I'd stay off for a day or so at most.

Finding I don't miss it near as much as I thought I would. Mostly on MeWe and here now.

Not saying I won't go back, but like having a dry-week from alcohol every once in a while, it's good to cleanse yourself from time to time to make sure you're not too addicted, and just to see how things are without it.

(And let me add, if you're considering MeWe, or already there, hit me up!

I've tried FarceBook twice over the years. Both times got disgusted with all the crap so just dropped it altogether. I've not been on it for a couple years and don't miss it one iota. The skinny little twerp that owns/runs it needs a major comeupance. Sane with Twitter.

So, Serk. Allow me to ask you, since we seem to be on a similar page, politically speaking. Honestly, the last thing my life needs is more social media. That said, is MeWe worth joining? FB and I have a complicated relationship. I keep it, as it's the primary contact method I have with most of my distant relatives. That, and to torment some of my left-leaning "friends" from high school. Adding another mind-suck website to visit doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy at face value, but if there's truly matter worth seeing/reading, I'd like your opinion on it. TIA

It all depends on what you're looking for and which people and/or groups you connect with.

So far it's reminding me of the early days of Facebook where it's friends having fun.

But it's really what you wanna make of it.

I'll also admit, I'm kinda using it like Methadone to help ease my FB addiction...

I've looked at Facebook a few times when people have linked stuff from here. About 1/2 the time I can't see anything. I hear stuff from Brenda about Facebook. None of it has appealed to me. Do you spend more time on Facebook than you do here ?

This is not new.  Didn't you ever wonder why they show you ads of sites you visited outside of FB?

Thanks, I created a fictitious account years ago, all false information. Well just so happens I was on yesterday searching for Goldwing's. I read this and followed the directions and it showed everything had done (all sites visited). Followed the directions easy peasy. Keep in mind this is "normal" data mining activity on line. Every app and most sites you visit all do the same as well as google/Microsoft.
Use a computer/smartphone and that's the price you pay. You can take precautions to what they "allow" you to do like this... but make no mistake you are not private and if someone smarter than you wants to, they can see every keystroke you make.

I did spend way more time there than here. Facebook is a digital Skinner Box, it's entire design is based around giving short term Endorphin releases by harvesting likes, comments and shares. It's self-reinforcing in this manner.

I better understood this once I walked away. I'm sure I'll be back, but even if I do I'm going to schedule "dry weeks" from time to time to step back and reassess its' position in my life, just as I do with alcohol.

I closed and set my fb account to delete yesterday.  Of course, they won't let it really close for 30 days just in case you want back in.  I would guess that 90% or so give in before that 30 day window closes.
I'm just tired of all the BS that social media delivers.  This getting old crap is hard.
We'll see I guess.

In case you are having trouble finding the off FB History, after you open settings, click on Your Facebook Information, then scroll down to Off-Facebook Activity. FB is an Evil Empire.

The only 'social media' sites I go to are this one and the place I go to log training.

Just think of how many books you can read by redirecting the umpteen hours wasted on brain dead activities like f-book.
