Posted a few weeks ago about my carb rebuild and finding two bad ACV’s. Well, I simply blocked the vac tubes and left the ACV’s in place. Got the carbs back in and the bike fired right up. Went for a short ride and did not experience any popping on deceleration. Synced the carbs this morning and found them very close to right at idle and 3,000 RPM. Only #6 needed a slight adjustment. Went for a thirty minute shake down run an I’m very pleased with how it runs. No noticeable popping at all.

This was a rather comprehensive “tuneup” that took me about a month off and on waiting on various parts. New fork seals, rebuilt master cylinders (all), rebuilt brake calipers (all), drive line inspection/maintenance/greasing, new rear wheel dampers, new brakes (all), radiator flush a new coolant, new oil, new tires, new spark plugs, new intake orings, new carb insulator boots, Redeye carb kit/float bowl gaskets, new float valves and a brand new battery for my handlebar clock. I even washed the bike.

are you getting any popping at idle with them plugged?  Particularly before engine gets up to temp

Steve, you just had to screw it up didn't you? Grin  I followed your lead on plugging the ACV's, did all 6 while I had them out while swapping them over to the trike. Be sure to let us know how it sounds and runs, apparently you didn't do all 6. Correct?

I only plugged the #1 and #6 carbs and only plugged the vacuum line that runs between the ACV and brass nipple at the bottom of the carbs. The bike starts and runs great at all speeds. If it pops at all, I can’t tell it.

Oh.... one thing I neglected to mention is that my carbs have #38 slow jets which may help mitigate popping.
