Just install a new Pingel petcock. Rode with it in the on position for over 151 miles. The valve never did ask to go into reserve. That seemed alittle much. Filled the tank with 4.75 gal. Has any one else ever had this with the Pingle valve?

The Pingel reserve is smaller than the OEM. From the archives the Pingel has about .5 of a gallon. There is a fix to increase it to about 1 gal.

Search the archives for "Pingel Reserve"

To make it the same as the OEM petcock involves going to a hobby shop and getting some model car/airplane fuel line(usually brass I believe). Take the Pingel along so you know what size just fits over its pickup tube. Back on your bench, lay it next to the OEM petcock, slide the extra tubing down over the Pingel pickup about a half inch and then mark it so it's about the same length as the OEM pickup....then cut it. Next, just sweat it on like you would copper plumbing pipe, be sure to rough up the surface of the two tubes...inside and out. I've had mine on for over two years with no problem.

I got 8 miles out of my resv pulling trailer. But I also got 24 mpg also. I've gone 20 miles on resv also. When I travel I fill up at 125-140. Around home its 150 miles. Only reason I did this is cause I had no trip knob and this was easy to figure. I get 32 mpg.

The pingel comes with a nice stainless steel screen already. If you would extend the tube, you maybe able to put the oem back on.

I did the Pingel conversion and I cant see any value in increasing the "reserve".  The tank still holds 5.3 gals or so........I used to hit reserve at 125 now I hit at just over 150 if I let it go, but I usually just stop and get gas around 125 like I did before...it seems to be a good range, compatible with the bulk of bikes I ride with

Filled the tank for the first time since I installed the Pingel. 5.1 gallons. Never hit "Reserve". '98 Standard. Defective Pingel?

The reason I would do the mod for the increased reserve is that on road trips, the mileage of the Valkyrie when hard running varies wildly. I've gotten as low as 20mpg to as high as 45mpg.

I can't depend on making it to 125 or 150 or any other number. Once ran out at 80! Fuel, windage, heat, and speed all effect the Valk considerably, so unless I just want to guess and stop every 80 miles or so, I need some indicator.

With no gauge, the reserve tells me where I'm at...and gives me a gallon to find some more...and when running in the west, even a gallon reserve is often pushing it.

INHO of course.

I carry an extra half gallon in a sealed container on a trip, have not had to use it yet.  Hoser

125-140 miles before reserve is pretty much the norm for the standard and tourer, but I have found that the primary factor relating to range between stops is the OBC limit (Operator Bladder Capacity), or the PBC limit (passenger).........     Wink
