The creation of the P@M board. I think it’s the best move ever. I skim it from time to time and enjoy the subject matter of the general board much better.

What say you?

So far so good... I also find myself self policing better, I just wrote up a scathing reply to another thread in the General forum, realized it wasn't in the PAM forum (Yet) and just hit the back button, no need to push it over the edge...

I don't know if the admins want to deal with this, but it should be relatively simple to set up a permission group for members who wish to be excluded entirely from that forum, and put said members, per request, into said group so that that forum totally disappears for them.

Yeah. And set up mandatory nap times and verify that everyone has disinfected their computer before logging on to the site. A Safe Space forum too. Need a Safe Space forum.

Geez folks, a little adulting would go a long ways here.

The PaM board seems to be an ok addition. Given the current political climate I would say we will see a member migration to it in terms of posting and use and eventually becoming the de facto general board. Not right off, but in the coming months.

Yes. Just from the number of noticeably more  interesting and respectfully discussed posts on here (even some political-themed ones) since the PaM board was created, I'd say it's been a success so far. I'm confident that enough members lead interesting enough lives and are still passionate about Valkyries and riding, that this General board will not only sustain, but thrive. Nothing wrong with hotly debated political discussions, and there's also nothing wrong with having a separate board for them on here  cooldude

I never go to any specific sub boards.  I navigate this site from these two headings*.  One is everything new in any thread I've posted in, and the other is everything new in any thread I haven't posted in (but both include every sub board there is, all mixed up).  So PaM makes no difference at all to my navigating here.  Though I plan to try to remember to be just a bit nicer on general than PaM (but not too nice).

Well Duh. My old eyes have a difficult time seeing which board each unread post is on. If I can see it’s on P&M I can just not click it. It’d be easier if that board just didn’t show up on my list of unread posts.
Thanks.

I think we're seeing the differences between the two main ways of consuming the forums.

Some people click on the individual boards that interest them and see what's in them. For those people it's very easy to just not click on the PAM board.

Some people use the "Show new posts" feature:

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php?action=unread

This shows all new posts on all forums available to that user.

For those people, having the option to have the PAM board hidden from them would be advantageous, if they so choose.

You are right. I have never used the all new posts option. It’s pretty easy for me to figure out what’s new since the news ones are at the top of each forums page. Therefore I can go for days without even a glance at the content of the PAM forum.

To be honest, I never thought a separate board would work. But, it sure seems to ! Yes, we could skip over posts we don't want to read. But it sure is nice to be able to scroll thru the General Board with a morning coffee, and not get bombarded with "stuff". I go over and read some of the menopause board. Sometimes I comment, sometimes I post a topic that might turn ugly. I like this setup a lot better. I hope it sticks.

Like I referenced in my earlier post Rob, you gotta have a bit more faith that folks on here have interesting enough lives outside of their own political or ideological convictions, that this board can sustain  itself without the endless debate on those topics. BTW, while your at it on here enjoying the new friendlier General board, I'll be looking for that photo proof on the Blue & White Wink

Yes I would say the idea  of creating a separate board behind authentication for people to freely discuss controversial ideas has worked out well.  Wink

The public face of the club has been cleaned up and the general board is more lively than ever with people not afraid to post for fear of politicization.

I know there was some angst concerning the general board seeing fewer posts but there opposite seems to have happened!

It is too early to deem it a success, but the hope from myself and others is that it can be a double thumbs up as time goes by.  It's certainly an improvement over the previous cluster flock. Evil

In keeping the "coyotes" in their walled-off portion of the VRCC website, to howl and yowl at the moon, fear the shadows of the boogeymen, the soul stealers, the world wide conspiracy spooks, and all the hobgoblins on the planet;  it allows the sensible members left to converse about motorcycles, life being generally good, and the harmonious efforts of normal individuals to make the atmosphere a tiny bit civil and amenable towards each other.

Frankly, my impression of  it is that it might have been named "The H&H Board".
