I used to love watching him on TV. Here's an example on the Smothers Brothers show, he's doing his rendition of an aircraft controller. Good for a chuckle and some of it isn't too far fetched. I hated getting stuck in a holding pattern and often would call ahead far enough out so I could divert if things were busy. If I were going to burn up gas I wanted it to be doing what I wanted to do or going where I wanted to go. Tooling around in a big oval for who knows how long was not my idea of an enjoyable flight.

I'm told a family story that while my mom was pregnant with me, my parents went to LAX to visit a friend of my dad's who had a Piper... (Or a Cessna, the haze of family lore gets fuzzy here.)

My mom, being many months pregnant, didn't want to go TO Disney Land but wanted to SEE it, so he took them up and circled Disney Land, then landed at LAX, with large jetliners on either side of him (Does it HAVE 3 runways?) causing his little plane to get tossed all over the place rather interestingly.....

Having been a driving instructor I can confirm his version is pretty factual.

Grin cooldude  At one time years ago we had a gal in the tower at Orlando that would tease a bit if she recognized the call sign and voice. She told my buddy who was flying left seat at the time, she would let him in early but would cost him dinner. He told her that's fine, costs less than buying extra fuel. She let him in soon after, much to the delight of a number of others on freq. He took her to MacDonalds...which got circulated in the community and she never let him forget it. They eventually became an item so turned out good.   Wink

She was also quite an accomplished areobatic pilot. Our club would periodiaclly have a fly-in at a dude ranch south of Orlando....River Ranch. It had it's own strip and golf course among other things. One Sunday we were cruising along, about four abreast when suddenly along comes this little Pitts upside down. She pulled up in line, said "hello guys, wanna race?" Then off she went, we all met at the parking area and had a good laugh over it. Often wondered what happened to her, a real fun person to have in the group. She wasn't a member but we all knew her, hard to believe that was at least 40 yrs. ago. Those were good times!  Smiley

Loved the comedy from that period.  Hard to laugh at the stuff the poses as comedy today.  I remember my dad watching Jackie Gleason laughing so hard he had tears.

Saw him live May 14, 2011, at the Belterra Riverboat Casino in southern Indiana. Some of his humor was a little dated, but still plenty funny. Probably the last "concert" I attended.
