I have no idea what’s involved but I would love to sew on a patch in memory of Bill
Maybe it could raise some money for his family? Any patch makers here?

Good call, I'm in.  Could a percentage of the proceeds be donated to his wife and kids?   Huh?

Big BF had very big shoes that I fear nobody can fill.  Our ol' gals aren't getting any younger, and speaking for myself we're all not "wrenchically inclined".   Undecided

Put some thought into the logo.  I could almost see Bill's smiling bearded face embroidered, bearing a shiny new halo.  The guy was almost always smiling.

Do you think it needs a logo?  I thought memorial patches are usually just text.

I’m not big on patches or vests. But, I’d be big on helping Bill’s family. Connie, if you are able to get this going, (I’m sure you aren’t busy with anything else), could you set it up for just a donation also ?

The crossed wrench is a good idea, very fitting.  Perhaps something recognizing his affiliation with VRCC.

I don’t know how people feel about helmet stickers or even a sticker for your daily vehicle window, they do fade, scratch and curl at the edges after time.

I was actually thinking of the issue of helping Bill's family too.

I really have no idea, but have considered they might have depended on Bill for regular support.

One of the two times he came to work on my bikes, his mom and brother showed up and I found them all signing out in his trailer.  I offered them all to come in the house, but they declined.

If donations (outside a patch) are needed, I'd gladly help out with that.

I'm in the same boat with meathead (I have a hard time envisioning that) Wink I don't generally wear patches.   But, if a patch is the chosen way to support Bill's family and memory, I'm in.

In regards to assisting Bill's family, they should know that we (or I) am here and available to assist in several ways.   IMO, Bill was that important to this community as a whole and a friend to all of us.

Thank you very much sir.

He lost a leg on a MC in 1990 @ 19 yrs. old and we almost lost him then. Thankfully the EMT's/firehouse was 200 ft. away from the scene and the hospital was 5 blocks away. My wife has been with her mother, father, and sister passing. 1st time I've been with her and thankful to be with her as she stepped out to make a call and he passed on me. A very sobering thing to happen to anyone who hasn't had this happen to them. I'm a tuffy but I'm tearing as I'm posting now. It really hurts. God least took him as I prayed for him to as he was in that bad of shape. Kidney and liver failure and a lot of stress in his personal life. Robert was a member of 1996 Bronze Paralympic WC basketball team. Again may they both be in Heavenly peace.

Connie,

I'm with Rob here! A great guy deserving of a 'fitting' memorial, and one helping those he cared about would seem entirely appropriate to this beneficiary of his talents and influence... Thanks to Stick for bringing the whole thing up!!!

We've been hesitant to set up donations for specific members.  Mainly because if we do it for one, others may feel slighted.  In this instance, another member died on the same day, somehow it feels wrong to collect for one over another.  That said, once I get the patches up, I may be able to set up something to kick in a little extra... I have to clear that with all the VRCC partners.

While I'm willing to go with a patch of some kind, has anyone considered a Go Fund Me thing?   I don't even know if it's "needed" and I understand the desire to have something to memorialize Bill, just putting it out there.   I have no idea of how to set one up.

Rams

It was suggested to me on FB.  However, the VRCC, per se, will not set that up for the reasons I gave in the previous response.  There have been past occasions where funds or parts or whatever have been collected, but the VRCC did not coordinate those endeavors; rather, they were member coordinated.  The VRCC staff members often contribute personally and we certainly don't restrict the use of our forums to promote such endeavors.  Even the patch dances on the line of my comfort level, but I understand the sentiment and we have done patches for other members in the distant past.

P.S.  I don't think there is a serious financial need (I could be wrong, of course).  His children are adults and I'm assuming he had life insurance (I could be wrong, of course).  He's been in the same house for a very long time, I'm guessing it's paid off (I could be wrong, of course).

Like meathead and DDT, I am not a patch wearer but would be proud to have one that I could frame and hang up in the garage where he setup and worked on my Tourer a few years ago (before the current trailer).

It's hard to single out one soul over another, as you have mentioned, but the Valkyrie community wants to do something to pay tribute to this man and let his family know what he meant to the community.

I'll leave how it's done to those wiser than me.
