I am in the process of rebuilding carbs. I have clymers and download  manual   I am getting ready to separate carbs. Does the synchronization screw and the 2 springs need to be removed?

I would say it depends on how nasty it is inside. If it looks pretty good and it’s the jets clogged, I’d probably wouldn’t remove all them screws. If it’s gross goo everywhere than yes you should

Chris, it looks like you are referring to the pilot needles, as the sync screws would have nothing to do with "how nasty it looks inside."

Ron, if you are referring to the screws you turn to sync the carbs, that are between the carbs and have the little springs under them:

The synchronization screws do not need to be removed. When you separate the carbs be careful the little springs do not fly away however. When putting them back together, I have backed the sync screws out 5-6 turns to facilitate getting the flyaway springs back in. Just count the turns and put the screws back that many turns. You will need to sync the carbs after rebuilding anyway.

Review section 5 of the vendor manual for detailed instructions on rebuilding the carbs, as well as terminology of components.

The set of carbs I fixed looked almost sparkly clean inside despite the jets and vent passages being plugged and for that reason I didn’t take much apart just unblocked the blockages, installed new jets and it worked great

Ron, if you are talking about the idle mixture screws then make sure to count the turns in before taking them apart so you know where they are set.  Write it down and then set it back to that when you put them back together.  Unless you have all the other tools and really want to go through the entire process of setting the mixtures, which I think is a total pain.

And, take pictures as you go. Even the best memory can let you down, especially if you have to leave the job for a day or two.
