I have a opportunity to buy a Ultimate seat at a good price. Problem is, it is for a standard and I have an interstate. I am guessing that since the standard tank is smaller than the i/s, the seat will be longer (front to back) and might not be able to fasten the front latch Anyone have any experience in this area? Thanks

You can make it fit but it will be tight and slightly scrunched

The word is (no personal experience) that the seat will snap down and release OK (and look OK), but may be a bit snug to the tank (at the nose). I seem to recall someone sticking a piece of clear tape at the contact point to avoid any paint rub over time.
What I don't remember is any comment on if there is any difference in a Std Lowboy vs. a Bigboy seat on an IS. The overall lengths (for standards) should be the same, but the Bigboy is up to 2 inches taller under the butt, but probably not as much at the nose (but probably somewhat taller at the nose than a Lowboy). Both are raised at the nose.
FWIW, I believe the only aftermarket seats for Valks that do not distinguish length between Std and IS are Mustangs.

Rode with an Ultimate Std/Tourer seat on my 99 IS for 10 + years, it fit fine, no scrunching in the nose at all, just my experience.

The footprint (length and width) of the standard and interstate tanks are identical. The difference is that there is extra metal on the side from the base, to the top, for the extra volume. The rear of the tank veers slightly toward the rear from the base as it rises, that is probably where the tightness comes in.
I have used both seats on both style bikes and they do work.

I just sent my Ulitmate back to the shop to have the pan replaced.... while on the phone with them, I was told there was no difference in dimensions on the pan between Low Rider/Big Boy/King... the only difference was the padding.

It will work just fine. I bought a full seat set for my standard. When my wife decided she wanted to have tunes, I went solo on the standard and switched the seat set over to my interstate. The front of the seat comes up a little bit, but it leans me back a little more and actually is quite comfortable on the interstate. don't hesitate to do it. Or, send me the information. I need another ultimate seat set.

Just got my new to me Ultimate seat. Looks like a low-boy and just what I was hoping for. The seller did not know but it looked it might be and I took a chance. It was for a standard but as several folks indicated, it should fit OK.......indeed it does. Turns up just a bit at the nose on my i/s but not enough to cramp the boys......so I am good to go. https://i.postimg.cc/dtnytLVJ/P1020791.jpg
