The weather was too nice today, instead of lounging around playing World of Warcraft all day, I asked the triplets who wanted to go to the land. To my delight only one responded in the affirmative, Serk Jr., which meant 2 wheeled locomotion was available.....

So we made arrangements with the spousal unit, the mother in law unit, and my dad to make sure the other kids were watched (Tarynn and Kali were headed to the drop zone, although the winds proved too unpredictable for jumping.), rounded up a few pew pews, told the little one to get dressed, and off we went.....

50 miles of mixed freeway (Flyway?) and 2 lane country riding and we're at the land.

Brief interlude - I've been having unpure thoughts lately. With the passing of BigBF, and Attic Rat's over booked status, and the carb problems my "Forever Valk" has, I'm thinking more and more of forbidden fruit, getting a Dairy Queen Cruiser..... Those thoughts ran though my mind quite a bit on the freeway portions of our ride. On the 2 lane portions I was too occupied doing the riding.

Got to the land. Yup, it's still there, had been quite a while since we'd been there.

Something just so purdy about a Valk in places most Jeep owners wouldn't go.....

Set some of the empty 1 pound propane canisters we'd gone through in the recent snowmageddon up as reactive targets...

(Oops! Turned out some of 'em weren't REALLY empty..... No spark so no ka-boom, but they did spin and fly 5-10 feet in the air, which was kinda cool.)

I really need to take a "Clean up the range" day out there..... But what looks like trash, I just see as potential reactive targets!

After showing him the difference between .38 Special rounds and .357 Magnum rounds, and making sure he was comfortable trying either, he tried squeezing off a few rounds on the Ruger .357 Magnum I inherited from my cousin. (I know, I know.... Eye pro.... It was in the bag, I remembered it as we were packing up.)

He also quite liked the Colt .25 I also inherited from my cousin...

(Between me and him we also went through around a thousand rounds of .22 in his .22 rifle and  .22 Ruger MKIII pistol, and me using my Ruger MKIV pistol, but those are more fun and not as photogenic.)

Just for completeness, I did get one picture of him shooting his suppressed .22 rifle. Kid's a natural, was popping coke cans at will, and really enjoying the "explosion" when he hit 'em...

Packing the chairs and other "Leave at the land" stuff back in the cabin, saw daylight where I shouldn't see daylight.

Well crap sticks! There'd been a tree branch rubbing on the roof a few years ago, I cut the branch down, and foamed up the tiny leak, but looks like I've gotta do some real work now. And this is WAY up in the air.... Fun fun fun.....

Oh well, no time or resources to do anything about that right now..... Stopped for one of his favorite meals on the way home (Subway)...

After eating, went back to the bike, older gentleman came up and wanted to talk. (You can't be an introvert on a Valk, and you REALLY can't be an introvert on a Valk with a 9 year old boy gearing up to hop on the back.)

We chatted for a bit, there was more to his story, but I didn't pry. He kept saying how beautiful it was that I spent time with my son, that I took my son for motorcycle rides. I spotted a slight tear forming, he blinked and looked away, told us how lucky and blessed we both were, told us to have a blessed day and walked back to his car.

Yes.... I am far more blessed than I deserve to be, but I'll take it...

Got home, unloaded the bike, had him "help" me clean the guns, and put 'em away in the safes.

Full tank of fuel on the Interstate, few hours with one of my boys, lots of weird conversations over the Bluetooth comms there and back, memories made, experiences had.....

Hope ya'll had a great weekend as well, and thanks for humoring me with my silly stories like this...

fun day with the boy and a ride and some plinkin and blowin up stuff

Dont get much finer than that Serk

Got the BMW charged and took a ride up the Hudson for a spell.  Cold air does mess with the tires
Was only 30lbs in the rear but now back where it should be. A bunch of 14 degree days will do that  Fortunately it was over freezing when I took my ride   Even saw one other motorcycle out while I was riding home

Much needed story.  cooldude  Four years ago today I lost my brother in law to cancer and I am seeing my sisters four kids reflect on their father on Facebook.  Do as much as you can with the kids as I know you do. Chris left us at 61!

Thanks for sharing that with us.   cooldude

The expanding foam in the roof crack is ..... something I would do.   2funny

Better be careful next time you open that door, something may be looking at you (or climbing your face).  Or freeking bees/yellow jackets (especially in springtime).

hard to get much better than that,  cycle ride, plinking away with kids, and subway.  Well, subway not so much... 2funny 2funny

I miss the weekdays and weekends a few years ago when my kid use to bug me to go for cycle rides after high school when got home before dark or on the weekends ripping it up in the country roads around us where there is not much traffic.  That 1st year age 16 I got him the 1997 honda Vf750cc magna as his 1st cycle he set a record I have not broken putting on 6000 miles in one summer.  A few years I did 5000 miles but usually about 3-4000 miles per year is all from April thru end of October.   If I had all 12 months to ride vs. 7 months,  be nice at around 7000 miles or tad bit more per year of cycle riding.   Sorta glad he sold his mint yamaha fjr1300 before winter since he even admitted he could not unleash the full potential of that cycle and sorta lacked character and not being able to fully whine out each gear (legally) was not as fun as he liked.   Plus, IMO, it was not a comfy longer distance cruiser and he sorta agreed as well although it was not horrible, it is still not a cruiser riding style.  I goosed it a few times easily up to 80 mph in 3rd gear very quickly and agree, it lacked character and not really that hard to get up to beyond legal speed.    Plus, the cycle insurance I paid on that fjr1300 was 3x's of our old Honda VAlkyries with the 1997 magna being dirt cheap to insure.  that fjr1300 would spank any goldwing or valkyrie out there even the new 1832cc valks.

Some empty long necks and shoot out the bottoms. Easy right? Thru the neck with out breaking the neck only the bottom. Sounds like you two had a danged good day!  cooldude Fore ya knows it-Dad this is my Prom date.  Roll Eyes 1000 rounds of .22. Yup when still living in Illinois just over the line in Wisconson was a garbage dump. Rats EVERYWHERE. Or as my Friend and I thought of it-target rich enviorment. Go thru a couple bricks easy! Wish I had the old Remington 66 back. RIDE SAFE.

yah,  1000 rounds of .22's is a lot of plinking IMO.  dirt cheap fun, but man oh man you go thru the ammo...   Grin

when we use to go deer hunting about 10-20 .30-06 or 12 gauge slugs at 50 to 100 yards was enough for me, but those have a tad bit MORE kick to it in a few hours of target sighting in with scope.

Serk that's pretty awesome!
Enjoy these times with your kids, my son was a 9 yo some 10 years ago, now it seems like a hundred years ago. I still have a good relationship with him but it's definitely different.

You deserve it!

First time in 3 months at least.

She ran perfectly, and boy is that fun    (you forget, you know).

I know that feeling, my elder spawn is 18, and rides my spare Valkyrie now!

I'm down to just my Standard (That I bought brand new) and the green one, the black Interstate I sold to a local buddy of mine... Just couldn't justify three of 'em...
