pass us by ? Or does it drag us along ? Does it alienate us ? Or does it coddle us in a bubble and breeze us along with everybody else ? In ‘72 I was 14 and got a job cleaning up a meat dept after school. Back then many things were different. We didn’t even open the meat dept on Sundays. Most people (housewives back then) shopped during the week and on Saturday. We would just cut and wrap a little extra and load up the case. Nowadays Sundays are the biggest days in a lot of stores. Almost everything was way more labor intense. Alaska was one of the first markets to embrace “boxed beef”. At the time we still had about 20% hanging beef though. Checkers had to memorize most prices in the store. We used “Garvey” markers, which was an ink pad with rotating numerals. Back then we were in a huge economic boom with the pipeline being built. Prices seemed to rise every other day. We’d have to take hairspray to remove the price and then restamp with the new price. A lot of them would get smudged.
Today I came across an article that kind of epitomizes the changes with time.

I'm not sure how I fit with the changing times. I think maybe it’s just dragging me along. I find much of what my friends and family does on a daily basis is foreign to me. Facebook, Uber, Instagram, DoorDash, etc. are just not likely to happen with me. I’m not saying all this is a bad thing. Efficiency and modernization will always win out.

sounds maybe to me you may need a part time job so as the time is not dragging you along?  LOL..  Roll Eyes

Either that, or go ride your Valk more so every single day now that you retired or find new hobbies such as fishing which am sure you like to do?   Roll Eyes

My neighbor both of them retired age 62 and 64 early and they loving it babysitting few grandkids and doing what they want to do whenever they want to do it.  both worked in maintenance/janitorial duties with his wife being lucky working for govt./state run college so she gets to keep her health insurance apparently which is a GREAT benefit to have once retired.

Meat, when I retired in '09 was was pretty much up to date on IT stuff.  I was a system administrator with some 60 plus computers, three servers, and couple internet connections.   I could replace/repair most computers.  Help users with their software problems.

Now some 12 year later, I  have to go on line to figure out what's wrong with my laptop.  Yeah new technology has passed me by.  I go to my Grandson or SNL for help now.

I still can fix a lot that is wrong with my Valk, but forget about fixing anything wrong with truck/car.  They are way beyond my abilities.   So yeah time has passed us by.  But then that is normal isn't it?   We went pass what our folks knew, our children will be passed by by their children.

Time Marches on and waits for no one.
You either keep up or get drug. It will not stop for anyone but Joshua
If you read the bible Joshua made the sun and the moon stand still for a time.  Smiley
