Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

Point Of View…

Amazing, isn’t it? How the angle of view, the perspective on actual events, can be so differently and dramatically impacted by the events, circumstances, and choices made leading up to those points of consideration… I was just now sitting on the porch watching and listening to the rain, again, as it continued to fall… Same this morning as pretty much the entire previous two days. Light, to be sure, drizzle mostly and somewhat intermittent, but more than enough to keep everything damp and dreary. It was surprisingly cool outside, too… not cold at all, but… Yep, I was smiling a bit and feeling fairly smug and smart…

I’d made the call to not make that most recent and much needed ride after all, partly due to the weather forecast, but for several other reasons, as well… Had I decided to push the envelope and actually go, though, I would be feeling all let-down and disappointed right now. I’d left the door open to depart either Sunday morning, yesterday morning or this morning… none would have worked out… Instead of dejected, however, I was feeling more relief than anything… OK, maybe a wee bit self-righteous, too…

I’m feeling better health-wise, also. Not that I’d felt bad or anything, it’s more like a little ‘down’ in the ongoing rhythmic undulation of up and down… The ‘swing travel’ associated with that cycle definitely appears to be lessening, though, and for that I am mighty grateful! I should be good to go for sure by the time departure for Hattiesburg approaches… I sure hope so, anyway.

As for the weather… who the heck can know those things? Certainly not the forecasters, and most certainly not this novice prognosticator…  Imagine that… I’m both an avocational prognosticator and a ‘professional’ procrastinator! I’m definitely not a numismatic, though, as I never could hold onto money very well or for very long… Well, actual currency in my pocket, that is… I do much better when I can’t actually see it or touch it.

Springtime in the deep south typically is a moist period for us… Any riding to be done during that time holds risks, and no even halfway smart rider would ever think of leaving home without rain gear onboard. Will it be raining when I’m finally ready to head for the MS thing? Possibly. Will I call off the ride if it is? Probably not. Hard to say until the time actually comes, but I really, really do want to make that gathering! On the other hand… I reckon it’ll all depend upon my point of view when the time comes…

I have people I work with that I cannot see their point of view because I cannot get my head that far up my A##s.
You sound better today Bruce. Good to hear

I think I must have worked with some of their close cousins or long lost siblings. I was once asked why I tended to talk more slowly when giving a presentation, I suggested it had to do with audience. They didn't ask for an explanation and I didn't volunteer one, the person asking possibly understood my inference. Wink

Bruce, as expected, things are slowly becoming more predictable...trending toward normal. With the exception of weather, which we will have....whether or not, you should be able to make the trip next week quite easily. Leave early, don't rush, ride easy. cooldude

It’s a wonderful thing isn’t it, when the right decision is made! Sometimes, I hate making a decision therein becoming a procrastinator.....which just adds to my dilemma. As far as riding go though, no decision to be made! My front tire is bald and it snowed last night!  Roll Eyes

As Hannibal would say, “I love it when a good plan comes together”!

I too believe that attitudes and the perspectives we use have a great influence on our perceptions of actual events.

See you in Hattiesburg!

Randy,

Yep, I feel better, too! I surely ain't all the way back, but I'm definitely headed in that direction!!! It's been touch and go so much, that I've sometimes felt like this would never end... Happily it now appears I was wrong...

Are you coming to the MS thing? You won't need to put yer head up yer arse or anything close to that... Lots of walking around folks with ordinary smarts and realistic perspectives based on reality and not pie-in-the-sky notions... Gonna be a good time fer certain!

DDT

John,

Yep, again your sound counsel is proving correct. I do plan to take it very easy, but... Heck, I'm just not one to spend my life avoiding challenge by sitting in the bleachers, when I could be down on the field actually playing. I'm going to earnestly try to play it smart; however, I do intend to actually play!!!

FYI, you're experience-borne advice and insights have been a tremendous help through all of this. Just having a clue about what's happening and what I can expect has eased the way for me, and I am most grateful for all of that! Thanks, my friend... Looking forward to hanging with you again...

DDT

Terry,

Bald tires are risky for sure, and riding on them is asking for trouble! Snow, while all y'all up there may see that more as an irritation, for this tenderfoot it is definitely a show-stopper! I saw the pic you posted in another thread, and... That whitewall is so 'YOU'! As for the age, I agree there can be risks with that, as well... I've ridden some vintage tires myself, and I can truthfully say the likelihood of cracks and dry rot is seriously elevated! Be careful, my dear friend... However, I do understand the need to not allow obstacles like that to keep you completely out of the game! See ya down the road one of these days... soon, I hope!

DDT

Jerry,

As so often happens, I find myself in total agreement with you yet again! Yep, my plans have a nasty habit of falling thru lately, and those that do work out usually end quite different from the original vision! Oh well, I must admit it has been one whale of an adventure, but I now am most certainly looking forward to a return to more of my former types of experiences... I don't like any of this cancer related stuff at all! Yep, Hattiesburg here we come!!!

DDT

Ross,

Yep, I'm banking on that very thing for sure!!! Shoot, it ain't impossible the weather might even cooperate! I'm getting anxious more each day... I'm even checking MapQuest and Ventusky daily... I haven't locked in on a specific route just yet, but barring a weather surprise, it will most definitely be a longcut of some sort!!! I wouldn't be at all surprised if some BBQ figured into the trip somehow either... See ya in Hattiesburg!

Bruce, I wish I was. Good time for sure. I elected to wait to 70 to retire so 4 more years and then I am free as a bird. I will make the Yooper one. Then I reserve some other vacation time for where the wife wants to go. Safe winds my friend

Ron,

I agree! If you're gonna do some planning, you'd better include plans for some flexibility... tweaking and such!!!

DDT

Randy,

We all must do what makes the most sense for our unique circumstances... No problem with you not making it... well, other than we'd have enjoyed having you as a member of the cast of characters! It's good that you allow significant time to be with your life partner... Well done! I also plan to be at the Yooper Gig, so perhaps you can show-off some of the variety of cocktail concoctions you seem to know so well... See ya sooner or later...
