Even the southern bro's won't miss this one.  Got down below zero last night, haven't seen it this cold for a while.  I don't think we got there last season.
Saw the national weather and it didn't look good for those south of the M-D line either.   Break out the woolies!!!

Found this interesting news release about the climate:

(AP) WEATHER REPORT....

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consul Ifft, at Bergen , Norway . Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts, which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

I’m sorry, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922 as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post.

Yep, hasn't been this cold since last Feb. I got the pellet stove running up here and wood burner fired up in the basement. I got to do some stuff outside. I better wait till it hit 10 deg first.  Shocked

It was 10 here this morning  ???  They claim it's going to be colder the next few days. You folks up north deal with this all the time but down here water pipes start popping  Shocked Bring on summer I'd rather sweat anyday as freeze. My heat pump has'nt shut off since yesterday.

We never got above zero all day yesterday.

At 4:00 AM we had MINUS 10, currently it is 2 above, by my makeshift temp guage.

We see what shows up on the temp banner.

I was in Mankato , Minnesota a couple years ago and the temps that night was -24 thats the coldest air my southern blood has felt and to add to the misery the wind was blowing about 25 mph . Next morning at the motel my truck was froze to the ground it would'nt build any air ( compressor froze ) and the rear trailer brakes was froze....I've never been as happy as I was leaving Minnesota in my rear veiw mirrors with Dixie on my mind. Y'all can have that I would'nt live up there if someone gave me a house.

Mid 40's here and no rain till afternoon, time to take the years first ride. Go on a little putt out to breakfast and then back home. Enough to warm the bike up to op temp. Sorry to hear about so many facing the cold. Moon is up in the sky as I type this, still dark thirty here. It may rain alot here near Seattle, Wa. but we live close enough to the ocean so we don't get the extreme temp swings from summer to winter, not too hot and not too cold. I guess you could say it is our natural heat pump. Enjoy today  Grin for tomorrow I work.  Sad

Hey Doc since I've got you here do any of you folk's in that area plan on makin' " The Whiskey Run " in June ?

Here's some info if needed ...I checked the link on the VRCC homepage and its not working for " The Whiskey Run " .
Quality Inn ... 1875 New Haven Road...502-348-9253...You will need a room for Friday June 11 and Saturday June 12....Be sure to say you are with " The Whiskey Run " to save close to $20.00 on motel cost per night ( we need to have 30 ground level park at your door rooms filled in order to get this discount ) .

Went on a 25 mile ride, breakfast, store, shooting range. 50 deg and sun breaks, no rain yet. It was a good day. Happy to live where all it does is rain  Undecided and that is what I tell everyone that asks about our weather, that way they won't move here, got too many already.  Smiley

Colder here this winter than usual.  Still have ice on our unplowed neighborhood streets which is unusual since it hasn't snowed in two weeks.  We missed the last couple of arctic fronts but will get hit on Weds.

Oh well, it will be March before we know it.

Oh heck Joe, it ain't that bad!  I live 27 miles west of Mankato and don't think I'd want to live anywhere else.  That said,  I have to admit, if I were to move, I would seriously consider the TN/NC area. I was very impressed when we visited a couple of years ago.  I know you love to ride your Valks, but I'll just bet you'd find a 150 HP snowmobile more entertaining.  Its  (IMHO) the most fun you can have without getting arrested.

Yes....the guy came out and checked it out.....it was a bad run capacitor that turns the blower motor on and off....$63 for that part ...+ $118 for the weekend service call....$181......better than having to replace the whole blower motor......it's supposed to get down to 18 here in the morning....

And to top it off, my car/moto/trailer tags are due at the end of the month...another ~$300.... Sad

Glad you got it fixed, Stanley.  Freakin furnaces always quit when a cold snap comes thru.

I had a vacuum switch go out about a month ago.  I noticed it about an hour before leaving for work.  Furnace fan was running but no hot air blowing.  The igniter would try to come on, but the vacuum switch (or lack of) would over ride it and no flame would come on.

Luckily I got a GW bud that is a furnace man, came over while I was at work and got it fixed so we had a warm house when we got home that evening.  Just lucky I noticed what was happening before we left for work or it'd been a cold night.

Ya never know when something will belly up on ya.

OK so I been P'n & moanin' for about a month cause it's so cold here this winter.  Well I guess I should just shut my mouth and be glad I am not as cold as some of you folks.  Just guess I am spoiled from all the nice (50-60*)  days we have been having in Jan/Feb the last few years.  Haven't been out of the 30s but twice in the last 2-3 weeks, but no single or minus reading either.  Hope y'all get some better wx soon.  Happy New Year to all.  Stan

Well folks looks like you southern folk got a taste of winter.  Evil It has been hitting -20 C (metric) up here in southern ontario for the last month. It is a nice mild -5C or 23F at the moment.  Wink you get used to it.
