After purchasing my 2000 Tourer late last fall and not being able to ride I have been going through it. Oil change , new air filter , fluids change. Got my new timing belts and a set of new Avon Cobra Chrome tires to install yet. I have been able to get a couple hour long rides in lately. The bike runs out awesome and after riding 1200 & 1500 wings for years I can’t believe how well it handles and how fast it is.
What I have noticed sometimes  at a stop when the engine is hot is a gas smell. There is no fuel dripping any where or indication of fuel spots under the bike when parked. As this is my first Valkyrie I’m not sure if the fuel smell would be considered normal. I can’t say I noticed it on my 1500 Wings.
Would anyone have any insight on the fuel smell that you can share?
Thanks so Much

If it is a non-California model, and the fuel tank is about 1/2-3/4 full, it could just be from the fuel in the tank expanding from the heat, and venting through the cap. If it is a CA model, look elsewhere, like in the tank to canister vent lines.

Gas smell can sometimes be the result of an old dried-out/flattened gasket at the gas cap.

Some have trimmed up some inner tube rubber and sistered it on top the old one.

I also remember someone discovered a large diameter O-ring that fit.

IF that is where the smell is coming from.  When riding (or parking) and smelling, stick your nose down there and test.

If pulling the cap, it's a real good idea to not let little screws drop down in the tank.  (Doh)  (magnetic screwdriver tips are helpful)

Thanks Gentlemen, it was a screaming 12 degrees C when I took my granddaughter for a burn today so I’m assuming the fuel didn’t expand too much but I will pay closer attention to the fuel cap.

These girls run rich. Sure it’s from the tank or possibly just the normal fumes from 6 hungry carbs?

I had a bad gas smell on my 97 standard. Re routed tank vent hose (on bottom rear of tank) from its bracket at the kickstand spring anchor pin (that points the hose forward and down at 45 angles---why Honda?) to the other hose bracket. loosly zip tied to other hoses that point strait down. PO had a 'O' ring under the cap. I tossed it out and lightly greased the cap gasket (only once). No more gas smell, been 4 years now. Did this all at the same time so don't witch one fixed it.

I fairy sure one of my IS's had a gas smell. I could only smell it when stopped, not while driving. Found no leaks or puddles on or under the engine.

So I just did my best never to stop riding.

Had you drained you drool tubes? The hoses that exit under the bike behind the engine. One has a plug in it, remove it while having a container under it.
