Left eye
Was not a candidate for the lens implant that fixed near and far vision

It was an interesting experience being awake whilst my eye was being sliced and diced

follow up appt tomorrow pm to see what the doc thinks

She said best I could expect is no glare at night and a bit better far vision because my right eye sucks so bad and of course no cataract

something about a normal brain only being able to tolerate so much deviance

Jess would have been able to come up wiyh a good one liner for that one

I will be happy if when a car is going the other way in fog or drizlle I can continue without havijng to stop the car   I do not ride the bike at night for that and other reasons   Right now vision is blurry so probably a few mistakes here or there

Looking forward to being able to see stars at night too !

Keep us informed.  I have been told, I am a candidate for cataract surgery in a year or two.  My vision is ok.  I only need glasses for close up stuff and to meet the requirements for a drivers license.

I can see to drive but, whatever the standard is, I don't meet it so, glasses are "required" on my drivers license.

My new eye also told me to pay the extra $150 and get the laser surgery.  I have no idea what the cost difference really is but I am curious it you used laser surgery or not.

Is this the one where you get cat eyes at night? if so, that's what my mother in law had done, she loves the results, it's taken some getting used to from us though to see her eyes glint like that...

laser to cut the eye instead of scalpel  yes it was a few extra $

I do not skimp on my eyes or my mc gear

It had adv of cutting down the astigmatism somewhat as well

right now typing with my amber clip on sunglasses on as light sensitive a bit    Roll Eyes

Do not skip any of the drops regimen.

Do wear an eye protector at night so you don't rub it when half asleep!!!

This is excellent advice and should be followed.

Had both eyes done last fall.   Although I do have reading glasses, I rarely need them except with small or lightly printed font.   I highly recommend this procedure.   Before, on coming head lights would blind me, now, it's like when I was much younger.

Now, if they could only accomplish this with the rest of my worn out body...   crazy2

My last eye exam (and the spouse's too), the optometrists told both of us had the first stains of cataracts (I'm 60, she's 59). So, sometime in the future, we will probably be getting this surgery as well - but it's far enough out that we don't need to worry too much about it yet. As we usually get annual eye exams (due to diabetes Type 2 for both), I'm sure they will be monitoring this as well as other eye concerns.

Funny thing - back in the 1990's, when I did ALOT of night time driving between Raleigh and Washington DC - my theme song was "I wear my sunglasses at night...." because I saw so well at night (still do) - on a cloudless full moon night - the only reason for my headlights was so others could see me - I saw EVERYTHING just fine.... - this was subject to my vision correction, however...

What sucks about my vision is my near-sightedness - 20/200 w/ astigmatism - my medical clearance for military flying said "MWCLWFCEP" - initials for Must Wear Corrective Lenses While Flying and Carry Extra Pair. If I look at an LED light at night without my glasses - I see 6 of them - in a hexagonal around the LED . And starting at age 45 - I started wearing bifocals....

I had both eyes done 3 years ago. No discomfort and the drops are required. Don’t forget. At 73 I see 20/40 but need cheap readers for closeup. It’s nice to not need glasses for riding.

Hope all goes well. I had both eyes done with lens replacement. 20/20 vision for the rest of my life. Was expensive but worth it. Painless and quick.

Oss, glad your cataract surgery went well. I had right eye done last year in June. Somehow it got damaged in the process but has healed now. The day after the surgery I was told that my cornea was 'scratched'. A week later the Dr referred to my eye as 'gouged', the third week it was "the tear" in my eye.  It did heal and vision is 20/25 now.  I now have an appoint in June to see a different surgeon out of the area who is known to be very good to do my left eye. We shall see.

Cataract consult the 26th of this month. And judging by everything I've read here I Am READY fer this. My near vision my night vision Are at a stage where at times I'm no longer comfortable with what passes now for my seeing things. And I KNOW I've spent to much time lookin at sonsets and sunrises from behind the wheel of a big truck. My time in the tropics on an Aircraft Carrier and shore bases in the tropics-white concrete-probably didn't help either. Anywho Evan-glad It's workin out fer ya!  cooldude I'm Not Sure but I think at a certain age-it varies-our warranties run out!  Lips Sealed RIDE SAFE.

Having laser cataract surgery on both of my eyes next week, one on Tuesday, and the other on Friday. They'll be replacing my lenses with those that should correct both near- and far-nearsightedness. They have some process where they inject an antibiotic mix into the eye that is supposed to eliminate the need for the after-procedure drops.

Even though I'll be under conscious sedation, I'm both excited and nervous to get this over with.

Carolyn and her mom both got it in both eyes. Carolyn can see
great now, and she's had glasses all her life, it must be life changing.
I almost wish I had cataracts!

it broke my heart that I was not deemed a candidate for near far lens implant

But after a few days post operation I can drive without glasses and can read the license plate of the car stopped ahead of me but cant read the name of the song playing on the screen in the car without the glasses

Not perfect by any means but I can see birds in trees and the bark on the wood and the blades of grass and leaves !  I will accept it

Actually clearer without the glasses as I need a new rx in that left eye

Very happy for all of you that could or can get the near/far implant

Get some new readers Oss.  I had lasic years ago and it was a God send.  Now my vision is getting worse so I need to get into the eye doc.  I'm glad things went as well as they did for you,  it could have been worse.

Oss,

I like your perspective! Being grateful for what we do have, not remorseful only for what we don't... Glad things have worked out as well as they have... they could have been much worse, ya know. Looking forward to hanging with you again, my friend... perhaps IZ? Possibly before?
