Saw this on Vancouver craigslist 1998  red and ivory tourer with 45,000 kms for $2750. Looks good but my shop is full. Act fast  cause I don't think it will last long. It's actually a Standard with soft saddlebags. My bad

I see it's gone. Very tempting, but since it was a 98' I only need to wait 1 more year for mine to be a collector.

Now if it was a 97', I might have gone ahead.

Looks like a nice bike, and I suspect only a can of Berryman's would clean it up nicely, which I have some around.

Hi Gordon.  Do you know what the rules are for collectors status on a bike?  I have a 97 and was thinking it should qualify next year.  I am thinking of painting it and am wondering if I go away from a factory colour scheme if it will still qualify.

You can paint a bike but it must be a period correct colour available to the bike at the time, as per the sub-section in this link. So, no custom colours.
25 years to get Collector status.,. good shape all around with no damage, rust, dents, or other than period correct aftermarket parts made for the bike.
Pretty easy to get... just need good clear photos right off the bat and answer EVERY question on the form when sending in. They have a lot of applications, so you don't want to leave something out and then have to go through the process again from scratch.
$190.00 to ensure my old Wing last year as a Collector... took a while, but they were down to just two people in that dept last Summer.

Looking forward to the Valk being eligible in a few years

Mike is bang on and was the latest to get his Coll status.

There is another status, but I think it's even older. Go to ICBC and read up on it. There is Collector, Antique and Vintage. They allow hot rod/custom, but I'm not sure of the age, 30 or 40 yrs? So you can have the custom colours, the rust/patina and the like.

Collector must be in good condition. But for our bikes, only 4 pictures needed, L/R Frnt/Bck.

I was out walking my dog this evening and met a guy and dit came up that he has several older bikes etc.  He said that you can pick up an application at any ICBC agent and it has all the details on the back.  Gonna get one and see what it says.  Thanks for the input.

I already see an issue. I Have an interstate tank on a std and don't have the maidenheads.

Since the applications go by photos only, I doubt the Interstate tank will be an issue at all...will never notice for starters... and it should be seen as a  "period correct" addition to that model anyways. I just wouldn't mention it at all. The lack of the maindeheads may even go unnoticed, or forgiven. I think it's pretty general, what the appraisers are looking for. Just make sure you have good quality photos right off the bat in your submittion and list any obvious aftermarket items. My Wing has an  aftermarket Mack exhaust system made for a BMW.... noticeably different style than OEM, but as long as its not some wild performance exhaust and is a period correct style it's forgiven. Also has Progressive rear shocks... again, a totally different look from OEM, but considered a reasonable replacement. The main thing is that the bike itself looks to be in general original configuration and is in very good shape paint, body, Chrome-wise. I have some pitting on the original chrome signal light stems,  licence plate holder, etc and some chips and small blemishes in the paint, but they weren't noticeable on the photos. Again, there's a fair amount that can be forgiven, if the overall appreance in the photos looks good and mostly stock.

Also found it interesting that "custom seats" are specifically forbidden.  Glad I still have my OEM for pics.

Can you say Disco is back!!

Never stopping sounds good. You'll need a belly tank to help with that.

Have you tried sliding your forks up an inch or so? I can't remember if you had changed you rear shocks on this bike or the ACE Tourer.

Gord,
I changed rear shocks on my ACE T. I was unaware that much shorter shocks could be put on the Valk. What is the shortest length possible.

Paul, lots of guys have gone down to 11.5" rear shocks. Stock is 13".  Also, if you're nearing the time for a new rear tire, I have a lightly worn Dunlop E4 that I bought new for the last Joseph Jaunt ride when I couldn't get my regular Avon in time. It's the same width, but 1/2" lower profile...made for the 1800 Wings. Ran it until the next Summer when I switched it out with my new Avon...has at least 75% tread left. Great handling tire and in excellent shape. Also...I forget what seat you have. Ultimates sit you up 1" above OEM, while Corbin sit you down 1" from OEM.
If all these still don't help, just get your wife to hang you from the ceiling in your garage with a 25 lb weight tied to each leg for an hour or so each day. A month or two of this should add an extra couple inches to those short little legs of yours....tell your wife that Gord and me will even  come over to help  Grin

That was my thought too, 11.5" shocks, 1.5" shorter.

Paul has the Mustang. I'm trying to remember, you said the front noise was a little more narrow, so you didn't need to spray your legs out more. I'm waiting on the border to get my Tourer drivers seat, so I can remove the padding and rebuild it like my old Corbin for the ACE T, as it was the best seat I've ever ridden on.

As for Paul's new Dungeon antics, we'll leave that out of this MC forum, and a discussion around the fire one night  cooldude

Those Disco platforms are still seeming to be the best idea too.
