I often visit the websites of Motorcyclegear and Revzilla and check out their sale and closeout stuff. I happened to see this vest at Revzilla, on closeout for $158.76. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/evs-compton-vest

It's actually on closeout at the manufacturers own website for only $39.00  https://www.evs-sports.com/collections/outlet/products/compton-vest?variant=4349301719081

Now, it's a synthetic leather, but looks pretty good. It will accept back armor, too. For 39 bucks, I think it's a steal.

I don’t wear a vest very often, but when I do it’s this one.

Had this one a long time, to the point I got to big for it to snap closed. Happy to say it will now snap and have a little extra room. That $39 one does look like a bargain.

You do know what happens when that vest is between you and asphalt right. I’d prefer to have cow hid or better between me and the ground.

I have 4 leather vests too, but the sonza bitches have shrunk in the closet.   Grin   tickedoff

(And I would rate heavy cotton duck right up there with top grain cowhide for sliding down the road.)

I’ve never wore a vest. But I don’t imagine they’d give much protection in a crash. I’ve slid down the road a couple times. Arms, legs, hands, and head took 99% of the abuse.

It's been four decades since I slid down the road.  I never had any problem with road rash (with gear), it was the hard hits from the fall that made me sore.  And I have never touched my helmet to the ground (with my head in it), except hill climb tumbles.

I'm not advocating the use of a vest or not. I was merely pointing out that you could buy this particular one from the manufacturer for less than the Revzilla closeout price. I did buy one. I didn't have a vest, and I decided to get one to set up with PGR patches for missions. It seems to be what most of the other riders have done, and, while I've never been a conformist, I prefer to fit in rather than stand out on those days.

I have been known to ride with no jacket at all on those really swamp-arse hot days, against my better judgement. A vest is probably better than just a t-shirt, one would think.

A vest is better than just a Tshirt.  I've ridden in Tshirts (with no vest) for 50 years.  Still do.  Though I gotta use long sleeves for sun skin cancer forever now (and a greasy sunblocked face/neck).  I wear gear when it's comfortable (temps wise), and on longer trips.  I do not advocate no gear, that would be stupid.

Just cheated death again today.  (in my Carhartt vest)    cooldude

(but never without boots, gloves, helmet, long pants and eye covers.... and a pistola)

And Wrigley's spearmint.  I don't know what it is (and doubt it's the small sugar hit), but chewing gum somehow contributes to my mental vigilance when riding.  I almost never chew it any other time, or driving the truck.

When I saw this in The Right Stuff, it was a forehead smack moment.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB7ZTyVkfB8

But I don't like Beemans at all.

LOL!  Death doesn't get cheated.  It may seem to us that we've come close but when it's death's time he will come and he will take what is his.  No one escapes.  No one cheats death.   Undecided

Cheated death is a common expression for taking a known and calculated risk, and coming through it unscathed.

But I have been near disaster or death a number of times in my life, and come through it unscathed (except for the shakes) either due to quick decisions, actions and pure determination, or luck, or a combination of them.

Life to me is more random than planned, more self determined than preordained.

No one can beat death, but it might be cheated many times before the final loss.

No worries  cooldude

Whether or not we are cheating death or if death just trolls us along until it's time is an interesting thought that I'll never know the answer to. I've never been an ATGATT person, even though it makes the most "sense". My only real "rule" is no shorts, and I've even broken that one once. I don't suggest that you ride naked, legalities being what they are in most places. Anything above and beyond that is up to you, I guess.

I apologize for our hijack of Oil Burner's thread.

The death rate remains constant - one per person (well, except maybe cowards figuratively).

I usually only wear my leather vest as extra insulation under my  leather jacket in cooler weather. I really do like this one a lot... I have the patch on the back of mine, but personally I like this better  cooldude

As I recall these were only available through the F6 Rider store. Seems to be in my memory they were $100. I’ve had mine since at least 04, maybe before that, but I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone wearing one. Course, I don’t get out much like a lot of you guys!

John,
That's a nice vest.   If you're not going to use it, I know a number of folks who do get out that would love to exercise that vest for you.  Wink

This vest is like Cinderella’s glass slipper, it has to fit just right! I remember when it became too tight for me to wear snapped up I considered getting some of those short expander chains used to link the snaps together again but I thought that would be giving up or giving in.

In my case, it would have had to be log chains.   Cry
