Near Summer weather here this past week, so finally getting the chance to stretch out the day rides past our valley and well up into the mountains. Feels good to get out on some "real" rides, even if they're only for the day for now. Easiest way I know to get away from everything and clear the mind, hitting the road solo on a beautiful day... about 700 km in all. The Mrs is still keeping her time on the bike to shorter rides as she continues strengthening the muscles around her new bionic knee. Luckily for me she's always so agreeable when I feel like just taking off on a solo ride (mmm...perhaps this tells me something? Roll Eyes)

Heading off into the mountains

Long and winding road...and not another set of wheels in sight

Reprise of my calendar photo from a couple years ago Smiley

Now, these are the REAL Three Sisters Wink

Seton Lake, a BC Hydro reservoir

On the way home...

First part of my route was Hwy 7 from home to Hope, Hwy 1 to Lytton, Hwy 12 to Lilooet, Hwy 99 to Pemberton...this is the main part of one of BC's most "famous" loop rides... the Duffy Lake Loop. I've never done the whole loop, as the last (and by far the least interesting) part would require me to ride through Whistler and the dreaded urban sprawl of the metropolis of Vancouver and its countless suburbs in order to get home, so I just headed back the same way I came, with a little detour up to Cache Creek on the #1. Even if I wanted to, the Valk would never allow me to navigate her close to the more urban areas...she starts to shake and shudder and develops a sever tendancy to turn Left hard...until she's done a 180 Grin  With much of these routes switching back and forth to each side of large river canyons, you get a whole other perspective from the other side of the road on the return trip. Packed a lunch so the only stops were for a quick bite, gas, photo ops, and ..... Roll Eyes
Temperatures hit a high of around 26C (low 80's) in Lytton which is often the hot spot in BC. This keeps up, and we'll be able to get further up North in no time to see our daughters, granddaughter, and expectant granddaughters/sons to be Smiley

You must be so use to the awesome scenery to NOT go off the cliff, I probably would.   coolsmiley

I have caught myself dozens of times over the centerline or close to the shoulder GAZING at scenery too long.   Not sure I would make it where you live very long.. Grin

That’s why I prefer the roads here on the Prairies to those dangerous twisty mountain roads Mike has out there. Go off the road here, you just keep going for a couple miles til you get to another one.  Don’t even have to come off cruise control. But we never get distracted by the scenery. Fall asleep the odd time, sure.

Jealous I am.  Our high country still has some "slick" spots.  I will stay away from them for another couple week (goofed up last year).

Thanks Mike.  One of my favorite day runs is  Hope to Princeton to Merritt to Fraser canyon and home . We miss Vancouver by using the border road to Abbotsford. I think we are going to be stuck on  the island for awhile. Good roads here too but  I like a change of scenery and a ferry ride once in awhile.

You're making me jealous, Mike!
May 1st I will get insurance for Valerie and then we have to take this ride together. I promise I will only stay in your territory and not lure you into my playground closer to Vancouver  Grin

Who wants to go close to Vancouver anyway!? The only thing I'd get there is a VI these days...

Looking forward to seeing you again!!!!

It’s really not so bad there. Whenever I drove thru Saskatchewan it always reminded me of “America the Beautiful” with its amber waves of grain. (It’s just that it goes on for frigging miles and miles !)

I do love the prairies too. Beautiful skies. Growing up on a cattle farm, it was easy to find the cattle if they got out. Nobody would attempt to sneak into your yard, your dogs ears would perk up and he’d start barking when he’d see a vehicle coming a few miles away.  And us prairie hunters ARE the best shots...nothing to do but shoot and our “range” (the dugout hill behind the yard) easily goes to 800 yds.   And endless gopher-sized targets.

Just sucks that any real curves are about a 12 hour ride away. Really hoping to go visit msb country this summer so I can wear off some of the left side of my tires. All I’ve had for the last year is right hand “curves” on off ramps and cloverleafs. I do go to some big box parking lots at night to keep my skills up and remind my bike how to turn left.
