Very good Dennis, quitting is a monumental task for some people, impossible for some more. I was smoking lightly for some years and quit, the habit of using it as stress relief was the hardest thing to break, I had no physical addiction to the nicotine.. that is no cravings. Smoking helped me through the hardest time of my life, but I don't miss it.

Congrats on the 19 years. I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life. Now second hand smoke, that’s another story but I don’t seem to have suffered any ill effects from that.

My last coffin nail 5/20/92.  28 yrs 11 mo.  Been off them long enough, I get my lungs are recovered to that of a never-smoker.  Though I still have respiratory issues from asthma.  Fortunately no need for a CPAC or oxy yet.  And I live at 6580ft aka 2005m ~ 2km high.  Altitude acclimated, plenty of extra alveoli and red blood cells.  You know the US Olympic Training Center is nearby - the altitude is good for athlete conditioning.  Get high altitude acclimated and deliver more oxygen to your muscles in Tokyo.

The Valks show near perfect mix ratio, being enriched by the thin air = mixture pretty close to 14.7-1.  Plug readings say great burn though I haven't run an analysis of exact ratio.  And that's with OEM jets for sea level, and my glasspack mod.  Way back when I lifted the needles one shim on Deerslayer as many were doing it - took the shims back out it was running too rich.

The ex started smoking when I did in 1970.  She had said years ago she would never quit as she couldn't take the pangs of nicotine.  She's quit now.  For good.  Nov 12, 2016.  With lung cancer, oxy cannula and still puffing like a steam engine.  Preceeded by her father, two older sisters, and two older brothers also killed by smoking.  Two younger sisters & one brother still breathing - only one still smokes.  For a little while yet.  At least I, and our kids wised up and quit.

My regret on this debacle is ignoring my bodys response and forging ahead with lung blood and body Pollution. Also sped up the demise of my natural teeth. I'll be in a store or the movie house and I don't have too See a smoker I can SMELL them now. And the price they charge fer a pack these days!  ick Again-THANKS Everyone.  cooldude RIDE SAFE

Head 'em nailed, sucking in my nic and blowin' out water vapor.  Ya, still a nic addict but NOT happy about Uncle Sam's Joe's Pact Act making my nic ejuice very hard to come by.

NOT going back to carbon tobak, either.

Congrats O2S, Mark, Serk, et al.

Browsing this thread reminded me that it's been forty-nine years for me.  I didn't smoke long enough for it to be as difficult for me as it was for some of you.  I do remember it still calling out to me for many years.

My admiration to those of you that made the decision and used the discipline to remove this from your lives.

I quit cold turkey the spring of 1964. I worked for Xerox in the Chicago area, my territory was Argonne Nat'l. Labs soutwest of the city. I was on my way to the Labs one morning and suddenly realized I hadn't had a smoke since about 10:00am the previous day. With that, I rolled down the window and tossed the pack that was in my shirt pocket, along with my souvenir lighter from my squadron in the USAF. Haven't touched one since. I was training a new employee while overhauling some equipment on site, the guy was a nice kid but a waste of my time. I kept busy trying to get work done and never stopped for a break or lunch, just had him bring something back from the cafeteria. Most areas at the Labs were closed to smoking so I didn't light one up for over 24 hrs., that's when I realized I didn't need that crutch. I can remember back in the early 60's it cost me $1.94/carton for Pall Mall on base, can't buy a pack for that now.
