The Pigman is at it again

The Pigman, Tim Salter, Roasted and catered a pig for the MI VRCC Chapter picnic last summer.  I got a call from him today while I was changing the oil in one of my bikes.  It turns out he wants to do a repeat this summer on Saturday August 21, 2021.  Tim has already reserved the shelter and he and his family will again be camping at the park and cooking starting Friday night.  All VRCC members and friends are invited.  The event will be held at the same location as last year, Pleasant Lake Campground, 4401 Styles Road, Pleasant Lake, MI 49272, Phone for registration (camp sites) 517-788-4320.  There is a very nice lake at the park for swimming and there are limited number of campsites available.  They fill up fast, so if you are planning to camp, I would get your reservation in.  Last year, Tim and some of his family members Camped at the park and ended up partying with the head park dude most of the night.  I guess they had a good time as the guy remembered him and was glad he was returning.

If you don't want to camp, but would prefer a motel, I will post some possibilities later, I'm not sure what is in the area and need to do some research.

For Car buffs, the Gilmore Car Museum is an hour and a half away via back roads, I checked their site and they are having the Relux Hot Rod show there on the 21st.  The Relux show is a collection of hot/rat rods and pin up contest.  It is in addition to all the museum vehicles and is held out side on the grounds.  IMHO, this is one of the finest car museums in MI and a great time.

The 21st is also the date of the Woodward Dream Cruise.  If you want to make a weekend of it the whole week prior to the dream cruise is a pretty good time, A LOT of cool cars.  Lodging near the cruise will be a bit of a challenge, but I'm sure there will be accommodations further out, but since this is a busy week in Motown, I would make reservations ASAP if you plan on attending.



I will do some research and post more soon, but wanted to let folks know so they can put it on their calendar.  Last year was a hoot, so I encourage you to attend and bring your friends.

Some good news right there! Tim was easily one of the more memorable characters to appear out of nowhere to join our illustrious cast of characters... I really liked that guy, and I was not amazed at all with the ease with which he fit right in. Having him volunteer to do it all again speaks volumes about his reaction to last year's experiences, so it appears all will be in for yet another treat!

I hope he shows up for the Yooper Ride again, also. I'm not sure if I'll be making your picnic again, but I sure would like to... Maybe Mitch could give me another lesson in enjoyable trekking... minus the 'Hubcap Road' routes, though. Riding with him is a very good way to fill the time between your picnic and Gig's Yooper thing...

As you no doubt already know, I have no plans, so where I might be by then is anybody's guess... If the welcome mat is still out, however, I just may show up and... you know... dine on some fine swine! I thoroughly enjoyed your event last summer!

Mitch and I stayed at a Quality Inn in Jackson just off I-94, I think, but I'm not positive now... might have been a Days Inn... It was marginally OK, but not plush by any means... I'd probably stay there again if alone or with another guy... If I had a lady with me,  I think I'd seek an upgrade... depending upon the lady, of course...

Only time I've ever stayed around there, I'm afraid... so, that's the best I can offer... There are other motels in the area, though, so it shouldn't be hard to find something satisfactory near the freeway... Good luck!

Oh, your Yooper thing is definitely on my list for this summer... doesn't guarantee I'll make it, but... you know... Anyway, tell Lulu & Griz I'm still figuring on being there, so they can prepare accordingly... Actually I'm really looking forward to it!!!

Justin and I had a great time last year.  We were part of the party with Tim's family, at least Justin was.  I crapped out about 10.  We were camping directly across from their mucho exotic motor home.  Of course we were in tents.

We are signed up for the Yooper ride, and will see about the Pig Roast.  I ate so much pork last year, I may have to bring a fish to cook.

Tim and Ron are planning to be at the Yooper Ride, but that doesn't nean you shouldn't attend the BBQ as well.  If you and Mitch stayed at the Days Inn on I-94, you are braver souls than I.  I never stayed there but drive by it frequently on my way to my son's in Kzoo.  I always thought it looked pretty shabby.  I'll try to find some other options for folks.

As Tim and I were talking on the phone, he mentioned how much fun they had with you guys last year, so I'm sure they would appreciate your company again this year.  Better call and reserve a site if you're planning to attend.  I'm sure the park manager may even try to put you next to him if you ask, he enjoyed hanging with the Pigman as well.
