a/k/a Stuffy. '99 I/S Valk Roadsmith Trike

De Pere, WI (Green Bay)

« on: April 30, 2021, 07:29:50 PM »

It's about time, I'm tired of waiting for it warm up enough to ride the trike. Want to put some miles on it before traveling to IZ just in case there's something that needs attention that I missed. I noticed a lot of riders in the area out on their bikes in low 40's temps. Be my guest, add in the relative wind to 45 degree temps and you have near freezing "real feel" which is beyond my tolerance. I'm going to a men's breakfast at church in the morning and if warm enough I'll take the trike. Supposed to be near 50 at 8:00am but it's only 3/4 of a mile away. By the time we leave it's going to be in the mid 60's, guess we'll see. I want to go look at a house near by & would be nice to just stay out on the trike for a couple hours.

There's always a price to pay at some point but, I was thankful it cooled off so I could mow today.   It actually cooled down a bit today here.   I think the high was around 70* or so.   Was nice mowing in shorts and a tee shirt.
Enough about that.   Wink

Been enjoying the "calm betwixt the storms", sure feels good getting the old girls out.  S'posed to be 75° manyana, we're out of the worst of it for a short but oh so sweet handful of months.   Now for more maintenance...   Angry

Bullet needs an alternator, voltmeter tells me it's working @ the usual 14.4 one day then the next ride I'll look down and I'm at 11.9 and dropping.  Wasn't paying attention today and barely made it back to home base.  I'm sure it's not the voltmeter as I have another plug-in type that confirms the dreaded reality.  I really hate alternator changeouts on these bikes.  Maybe if I try it without cussing this time it'll be an easier process?   Huh?

I’ve found excessive cussing, knuckle busting, and sweat into the eyes helps tremendously.  Wink

John just put some long underwear on and a warm jacket, heated grips help and ride.

not the cold that was the problem today, but the constant 30 mph winds was blowing me around not enjoyable hitting a gust fighting the wind for very many miles.

We pulled into NYS Friday to 40º, rain, wind. Didn't see 40º all winter. I'm selling and staying south, but, the wife says she's not. Not sure if I'll miss her. Maybe I'll get to cleaning up the bike today.

John,

It's never perfect anywhere! If you'd stayed in Florida, you'd have to contend with the Love-Bugs, heat, humidity... yadda, yadda... I started to add Yankee drivers, but I remembered you have some of those up there, too... Oh well, I'm hoping you can get out soon, if you didn't make it out the other day... Most of us are wanting to hear about your new ride and how you're reacting/adjusting to it... Some of us may find your observations and critique useful in a few years...
