Hey guys,

I have just bought my first Valkyrie after watching them for a while. There is not a lot of them in Aus and there are even fewer over here in Perth.

I have upgraded from a 1500 Vulcan that is on its way out and was a disappointment power wise. I had an 800 Vulcan before it which had more power than the 1500.

When I saw this Valkyrie advertised I had to jump on it as it has had a lot of custom engine work done. When I work out posting photos I will put some up.

Work done:
BDG Supercharger kit running 10psi
Forged internals
EFI conversion with Wolf 3D ECU
Soft bags, light bar and windscreen

Honda build number 27 with 37000kms

To do list:
Tach adapter
Forward controls
New belts and pads
Spark plug covers

Welcome.

Make sure you double check the grease for the drive splines and make darn sure you assemble in the proper sequence. That extra power will chew up your final drive extra fast if it's not right.

Cheers

I have checked the grease and it was really good in there. I will replace the o-rings and fill valve when the tire gets done as I have to track down a supplier for the o-rings and the tire has maybe 5000 left in it.

I had to learn the hard way about the fill valve on the front when it got changed.

I didn't see anything about a sequence for the rear wheel. I'll have to have another look.

I've looked at numerous supercharged Valkyries over the years, I've
never seen a "BDG" kitted one. Your yellow Valkyrie looks great.

I didn't see anything about a sequence for the rear wheel. I'll have to have another look.

Every now and then a Valkyrie owner will take off his rear wheel
and be shocked to see that the flange and hub splines are all
worn off. Or the fitting of the pinion end of the drive shaft
into the final drive pinion cup is all worn away. Or worse, this
surprise goes unnoticed until the rider is stranded on the side
of the road.

A folklore has developed around the maintenance of these parts,
some of the folklore's strongest adherents have many miles on
final drive parts that still look brand new.

Here is a good final drive maintenance procedure that includes
many of the ideas... the fellow who wrote it has had his
hands on many final drives and his bike with many miles on it
has like-new final drive parts:

Stay tuned to this channel and you'll get to learn about "the little holes"  Smiley ...

This is about the only reference to the BDG kits I can find online. I can't work out if they are still in business or not.
Having taken the kit apart and put it back together in order to renew it's gaskets it seems like a really well built kit with some huge billet ally parts.
I'm pretty sure that PO has spent more on upgrading this bike than what I paid for it.

Thanks for that instruction. I didn't check the flange side when I took it apart so I'll have another look when my brake pads turn up.

Agreed on that final drive inspection and re-assembly sequence.   My first attempt didn't fair so well and ended up costing me a few new parts a few thousand miles later.   I didn't know any better at the time.  Of course, my "experienced" help had never done it correctly.   Won't go into that.

Welcome and enjoy that Valkyrie, no doubt she's special

That sir is one badass machine

Wishing you many happy miles (kilometers) on your Valk

What is the highest speed limit in your part of the country and did the bike come with a radar detector?

Our highest limit here is about 70mph and they banned detectors a few months ago.

However this state is one of the lowest police enforcement areas. On any given month you might see a marked car or mobile camera. The mobiles are generally set up to capture front plate and drivers face. Bikes don't have a front plate.

P.S. I do not condone the breaking of any laws. Just giving an idea of how it is here

P.S. I do not condone the breaking of any laws.

Me neither, though when I am putting no one at risk (but myself), I tend to think of posted speed limits as suggestions, not requirements.   Grin

Though taking this position with policemen and judges doesn't work at all.
